Just a quick test with the "Benchmark_GPU.bat"
on my comp:
Core 2 Duo 6300 (1.86 GHz)
2 gigs of ram
8600 GTS
on Vista 64 bit ed.
30 fps 1024x768 w/ All settings at Medium (default)
15 fps 1024x768 w/ All settings at High
15 fps 1680x1050 w/ All settings at Medium
4 fps 1680x1050 w/ All settings at High
I love how the "DX10" effects are not actually DX10 effects at all, and work fine on DX9... saw all the "very high" settings and DX10 stuff working fine on a 7900 GT this afternoon...
I've just been reading the tweaking thread PolyHertz links to, and it would seem so. Might be worth the drop to a lower rez to see the 'very high stuff'...
It's weird, but normally the demo ends for me when I get to the cut scene at the frozen boat. One time though, there was no-one at the rendezvous, and I jumped over the boat, saw a glimpse of the 'bad guys' and had about two minutes extra chasing it/them through the jungle. Is that normal? Has anyone else done that?
[edit] I just tried the 'ultra high' tweak and - whilst it was playable, the performance hit was just too much for my little lappy. It certainly did work though, god-rays and all..

yeah, I heard it gives quite a boost in visual quality without compromising the performance. From what I understand, this minor tweak makes Crysis XP >> Crysis Vista.

This is where it ends for me too. I was hoping to get a better look at some bad guys and frozen enviros.
Yeah I'm pretty sure it's all marketing tie-ins.
I wonder what this means given that they said that DX9 players will be unable to play on DX10 servers?
I really had some high hopes for this game. I've been trying to find a game to continue the mod I work on since the Tribes series has ended... After reading this thread (and some others), it's really sounding like it's a disaster I was expecting some high requirements, but the bugs are just ridiculous and the enemies look first gen
Well, if it helps, I think it's a ton of fun. I replayed it and tried some different tactics - cloaking is great. If you stand still it doesn't drain your power, and you can go crouch in some bushes to recharge you cloak. I had a great time infiltrating camps and either grabbing guys by the throat and taking them out, or headshot-ing guys with the silencer on. It's some nice Solid Snake/James Bond action. Of course you can then drop a grenade and explode an entire building and knock down some trees, which is sweet.
I'll definitely be buying the game. I'm just sad I'll have to either buy a new PC or play it at work.
Plus the editor is slick - so if you were making a Mod this should be on your list to check out.
I also really wanted to like Crysis. I think the visuals are great, but I ran into some big problems with AI, driving, destructible enviros, and the gunplay. It seems they were super ambitious and that should be applauded, but, I feel like all the rest of the game play subsystems didnt get the same love that the engine\lighting\shaders did. Its really tough to make AI respond well to a completely changeable world, and it shows. The fully destroyable stuff is super cool in theory but kept doing really weird things that kind of ruins the illusion.
One random funny experience was when shooting out of the hummer turret, and a small tree beside me got in-between my bullets and their target. So of course the bullet chops the tree, the tree falls towards my hummer, and boom the whole thing explodes. I think I had more physics related suicides in this game than any other.
bullshit, I should be able to take most of those guys out in a couple of hits. Every once in a while I can get a one shot kill of if I hit them in the head or rush them with the shotty. But the rifles are nearly useless at range. . . which they shouldn't be.
I'm actually more effective with my laser guided pistols than the rifle, that's fucked up.
I dont have a fast comp enough to play this game so I have not tested myself, but someone might find this article interesting http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/?p=522

Yeah, I downloaded 'demofunmap' which contains one of the alien enemies - amongst other things - but I haven't looked at it yet. Don't know if I will, but I certainly won't be posting pics if I do.
so directx 10 isnt coming to xp in any form. I never heard any rumours about directx9.0f at anyway.
Wether games are going to be programmed in such a way that directx10 features can be translated over into directx 9(like in crysis)is what Im interested in. Doesnt matter what directx you are running if the game developers are wise enough to make a game that looks good and plays well on both operating systems. Makes sense to me.
Choose between playing with everything on low but the shaders on medium, which makes it look fairly good... if you squint. Or everything on high but the shaders on low, which makes it look OK though somewhat dated.
Meh, forget about it. HL2Ep2, Bioshock and even the UT3 demo all run super smooth on high settings with my old 7600gt

so are we looking at some underhanded marketing here or is there really anything about directx10 that is better than directx9?
people will still probably need to buy directx10 compatible cards to play crysis properly but I think thats beside the point.
I wonder what this means given that they said that DX9 players will be unable to play on DX10 servers?

Makes things pretty clear for the world to see.
