COMPUTER CRASH.... WHAT NOW??

Hi all, ive lurked this forum for a few months now while trying to decide a new major in college. Ive chosen to get my bachelors in digital entertainment and video game design. heres my question, this morning I woke up to my computer giving my the ble screen of death. tried a restart, tried all the safemode settings, and she just gets to past the windows screen then falls flat and turns off... im thinking it time to upgrade... what systems can you all advise me on with what kind of hardware to get myself into the chosen field of study? I can manipulate computers, I just know jack about the hardware needed to run certain sofware well (studio max....etc).. thanks for a finger in the right direction :-)

What's the error message on the BSOD? Could just be your videocard dying, or maybe RAM, who knows. Could be much easier to fix than starting over.

...There's a whole lot of contributing factor that's killing your comp but yeah if you can tell us the message in the Blue Scrn that will help. You might wanna call the manufacturer, technician if you got it custom built like mine or friends who know more about it than you. Mine once did that with a Video Card failure and a faulty drive.

But anyways, for the system you need, try avoiding getting
AMD processor as it seems to have problems running some Direct X apps...in my case that is. At least get 2 GBs of RAM and dual core processors if you can. Anything below that will annoy the hell out of you guaranteed.

I'm getting a new comp in about another two years...

what graphics card do you reccomend? id like to keep the cost of a new setup around 650 or less...

Open up the PC and look at your fans, make sure they are all turning and that nothing is overheating. This is the no 1 cause of problems in PCs that are not regularly cleaned out and maintained.

That guide Eric posted is a great place to start. Also check out www.tweaknews.net hit the forums there and ask your questions, you will get a prompt reply as well as advice on what system you will need etc.

that guide is nice but if i ordered all that i still wouldn't know what to put where once i got all of it.
