I recently discovered the GENIUS that is Portal. I love this game so much-- the writing and character development in something that isn't essentially a character driven genre is AMAZING.
I created a variety of The Cake Is A Lie merchandise both wearable and otherwise with the phrase and ascii art of The Cake, like from the end credits.
Wow. Trying to make some cash off the efforts of other people. Nice one. It wouldn't be *quite* so sleezy if your 'merch' took more than 30 seconds in MSpaint.
Uh, dude, the price is set at the default price for cafepress product with no markup, which means I get zero profit.
"the cake is a lie" is deliberately set in a terminal type font to invoke the old teletype look of the credits.
Ditto for the ascii cake art (which was my best effort at duping the cake as show in the credits roll for "Still Alive"). Getting the linewidth and kerning right was a pain.
Both images were done at 350 dpi which is above and beyond what CP recommends files be uploaded as.
I was inspired by a poster mentioning they'd like a similar shirt. When and if Valve offers similar merchandise, I'll happily delete the store.
Actually, I lurked around here a day or so earlier, and I found this page while googling for pretty much anything connected to JoCo and the phrase "the cake is a lie" (this thread is currently on the second page of Google results for the phrase.
I'd feel pretty silly for joining a community without anything to show, so I put the shirts and other stuff together on a lark. This was done up during my lunch hour.
Again, absolutely no markup is ON these cafepress products-- that's how cafepress store owners with a basic or free account make their money-- they start with a base price (.99 cents for a mini button) and anything added on to that is profit for the store owner.
If I wanted to "whore anything" I'd have these offered at a mark-up.
If I had my own t=shirt manufacturing plant, I'd offer it myself, but I don't,...
here, tell you what... I'm at home now, so the psd files and source jpegs aren't on this box here.
When I get back in tomorrow, I'll post the source files in PSD, hi-res JPG and PNG, so if you have your own t-shirt heatpress or something, you can make your own transfers, too.
I used OCR Extended for both the front text and ascii image.
I'm planning on getting a plush companion cube when it's out.
Hmmm I actually do work at a screenprinting/embroidery shop as an artist and could get this shit printed myself and sell it for much, much cheaper. Hell I could even make the writing look just like it does in-game instead of the shit look you gave it. But I'd much rather not risk the possibility of getting sued by Valve for stealing their more than likely copyrighted material.
Gotta' hand it to you, though. You're the biggest tool this site has seen since Mr. Bones or whatever that fucker was called.
God damn I just finished this weekend since I checked the game out from work this week. Damn a lot of fun. Short but I had a blast. Now to play some advanced maps.

aint that what the penny arcade store is? sure a tad bit better quality. but 90% of their stuff is making a buck off of game popularity they had nothing to do with. seems to work pretty good for them
Just finished EP2 and working through portal. Those turrets are creepy.
Is it just me or would a rocket jump like ability be fun to add? Maybe not rocket jump but something that would allow the player ricochet off of surfaces.

I'm also open to other merch suggestions.

I got mine!
Am I the only one that'd want to see a Chell action figure, or a model GLADOS?
