For those of you who are looking for a BioShock demo on the PC, it is in the works and will be out later this month. I'll give you more details about it tomorrow.
DOWNLOADED.
Game awesome.
BUUUUT
Physics are a tad wonky
And for a game that's supposed to be realllly immersive....
Why doesnt my guy have legs?
And where's his shadow?
Great game, though. Just a few small problems. Mostly just nitpicks on my part
Shock 2 was the game that got me into the industry. Just played through the demo. It gave me goosebumps 4 times before it ran itself up.
I have absolutely no qualms with anything so far.
Edit: That stroller scene was one of the best moments I've ever had in video gaming, I felt remorse about killing the splicer afterwards.
I dont even know if I can make it through the fucking demo! This is the creepiest game I've ever played. I've almost shit myself several times already.
**EDIT**
oh my fucking crap. about 10 seconds after i started playing again I went into that restaurant and back up and when I heard some bitch scream behind me before hitting me with a pipe I think I shit myself. I turned it off so that I don't have a heart attack!
Yea that was awesome. System Shock 2 was also a fav of mine. This game is fucking great as well, amazing atmosphere and beautiful graphics. What an awesome demo
Gotta say I am on my way to Gamestop today to reserve myself a copy. That was amazing. I haven't had that much fun in a while and damn it's jumpy at times. The stroller scene was insane...
Nitpicks... Lots of butterfly effects on uvs that were mirrored. I was walking around and looking at the art since it's UE3 and I wanted to see some things.
Some seams here and there but well sometimes it's just impossible to get rid of them.
oh man, I didn't think that could get me any more excited for the game.. but the way the demo ended just left me begging for more.. I just wish they showed some of the customization and upgrade system, since those are going to be huge parts in the game.
That, and I love the idea of research, where you take pictures to learn about enemies and in tern are able to invent shit based on your research.
I assume that i'll be seeing you later today, sarc?
I'm extremely happy that this game has managed to scare me, and there are no problems significant enough to make the game less enjoyable. Yet.
I love the 50's music, atmospheric.
I preordered the special edition with the bid daddy figurine
For folk in the UK:
Go to http://www.getupandplay.co.uk/ and click "No purchase necessary" (wee text near the bottom of the screen), fill it out (didn't work when I tried @yahoo.co.uk email, but gmail worked).
You get emailed a code, put that and your number in and you get emailed a code that gives yout £5 off game.co.uk when you spend £30 or more. The special edition is £39.99, so you can get it for £34.99 (free postage) with this.
I totally agree with what nitz said. There's little issues here and there. But even those issues are still better than 80% of the stuff out there.
Completely believable world. I liken it to environments in the Harry Potter movies. The world even though it's off seems like it could work. Which should usually be the goal in all this madness I think.
I have to say it has me hooked...no fish / water pun there intended. The environments are gorgeous and the gameplay had me wanting to play with more plasmids and see what nasty things I could do. The sound when coming thru a nice surround setup is very creepy and plays off the visuals greatly. That song the lil sister was singing when you first see one harvesting was really unnerving.
The setting of the story is great. I like the theme of the environments.
I can't say the same about the visuals, though. The art direction of the lighting, I thought, was great. Very classic sort of 1930s sci-fi look/feel to it. But the asset themselves and the execution leave me wanting more finesse to them. Everything looks so harsh, a lot of contrast, it's very difficult to the eyes. I never know what to focus on when going through the levels... because everything is trying to grab my attention.
This is my main issue with most current games. Everything is in your face. There's no consideration taken into focusing the player's eye into a specific area of the screen. There's no consideration of harmonizing color, values, and detail to achieve a clear and readable onscreen image.
Everything is so highly detailed or have high contrast that it makes my eyes cry blood.
Pro tip Lupus, I'm getting the special edition now
Played the demo today, I love it - setting is so fresh, lighting very vibrant and bold, audio is awesome (if a little cheesy at times) ... some of the water effects are amazing too.
The specular was a little overdone here and there but overall very good design and artwork, and it's atmospheric and fun too! Winner...
I fail to understand how people found the demo on Medium mode hard, I must've done it 3 times now without dying a single time, as I expect most people here have.
A definate GOTY contender, pre-ordered the special edition
Being hard is partly what made SS2 good, every time an enemy is around the corner you actually have to think 'do I have enough health/weapons do attack? how should I attack them etc.'. I'm kinda sick of running through FPS games with a shotty and clocking it straight away with no effort.
I thought the AI is great in this game. The bad guys are so aggressive and creepy you end up genuinely hating them. Cant wait to play the full version
after waiting hours for the download, I was not disappointed!
Game definitely sold me, i was going to get stranglehold, but I'll just rent that instead. The water effects were awesome, made me stop and look at them, to see what ue3 material tricks they did. The sound was equally impressive!

The art book is sweet!!!
I agree with most of the crits here but the total package is what sells it. Pretty awesome sequence when you first shoot up
