That looks pretty great...hopefully a clear high rez copy will pop up soon for a better look at the detail. Gives off a nice kinda feel though...almost like Motorstorm / Mad Max / Blade Runnerish.
I want to see what this crazy editor technology they've been hawking looks like... how they manage multiple artists working on the same enviro at the same time, and exactly what they meant by being able to have as many textures as you want.
That very opening bit with the twangy guitar... my first thought is that it was gonna be like a Firefly video game Not quite that cool, but still looks boffo. Don't wanna read too much into a heavily compressed video, but the lightning seams a bit harsh (my only real complaint about Doom3.)
What I found interesting was the mention that id had been working on another game "Darkness" until relatively recently. I guess that got canceled and will never see the light of day? It would be cool to hear more of that story. . .

fess up or mess up.
holy hot damn! so much has been improved since last they showed this tech to the public. particularly the sking, like Entity mentioned. im just wondering if this is all in-game engine! another thing i'm thinking: if the insects have so much detail, are all but modern engines gonna slow to a crawl? lol jk.
looking good! now i just hope that Quake 5 gets announced tomorrow, and it has a story line that goes after Quake 4, and it doesn't have a 'lame' ending.
Wow... those characters (and animations) are certainly a step up over anything I have seen rendered in real time so far (and I would almost dare to say rendered in general).
Especially the eyes made me go "wow"!
The rest is pretty good but nothing exceptional (ok those rock formations on the screenshots look pretty awesome too).

He did note that id is developing Rage to be a T-rated game, a departure from the company's dark and Mature-rated titles. "We did make the decision that, 'Yeah, the game would probably be a little bit more fun with exploding bodies, but it won't kill us to keep it down at a T rating,'" he said. (Via Gamespot)

Good bye gibs. : ( Id, you were the king of them all.
so much interesting shiz from quake con, New team at id - Quake zero, browser based quake 3 style fun.
Rage announced and mention of a new quake with the tech 5 to be made after the second team is formed and they have finished Quake Zero!
GameTrailers have also got a 2part streaming vid of carmack talking a lil bit about the tech, looks like there should be a part 3 talking about tools to come.
The tools videos are amazing. My first thought was that it's a 3D version of the starcraft map editor. I'm taking it with a grain of salt, but it promises to make porting and texture budgets obsolete...on top of the high res models we do for normal mapping, it kind of blurs the line between game art and prerendered CG, doesn't it? Exciting times.
Imagine an MMO built around this thing!
One term I didn't catch though...what's virtualization?
Edit: Meh. Wikipedia to the rescue. Now slowly trying to squeeze that into the context of the tools vid I just saw...

A buzzword, as far as I could figure.
From what he was saying, virtualisation seemed to be referring to the way they were handling the resource allocation with the megatexture stuff. Not that I have any actual clue as to what that means exactly.

That part reminded me of that scene in The Shining.

It's going to be a free and updated version of Quake3, that basicly is an team building exercise for the second internal id software team.

I hope the vehicle gameplay doesn't completely suck like it did in halflife 2. Man that was awful.
Specially cause Carmack is quite a car nut.

Love the old man with the baseball cap!
