So my friend harry and I decided to make a little challenge and try to make a fzero style craft of our own. limited to less than 1000 polys with 3 maps all 512x512(colour,normal,spec). I used crazybump for the normal map so its not amazing but it will do fine. Spent about a day and a bit on this
if theres anything you would like to crit then go ahead and I will keep note of it for next time

though i think there is some wasted texture space that you oculda used up using some rotating and scaling? just a thought.
good work, otherwise. really impressive texture work! but how about a wireframe!
anyhow, cool little craft. I diggit.
Not sure why you hae all those extra poly segments on the nose, cockpit, wings and underside though - looks like you could just remove entire edge loops and the silhouette would stay identical.
good idea tho, and cool start ^^
Mop and Vahl, those are useful comments. I added the extra loops so that I could add more curve to the wings and to the nose but it would probably be fine without them, I was just trying to keep this below 1000 polys which turned out wasnt enough of a challenge for me but I new some of my friends might have trouble keeping it low cause they havent done much 3D ever.
Vahl I might try making that medium/hi poly version and baking a normal map but Im so busy at my work on uvw mapping and texturing that I only really get to do my stuff on weekends.
i drew my own F-zero vehicle, along with the driver on paper, hehe.
Oh man this would be an awesome PC challenge. i've already started concepting.

I agree it would be a cool PC challenge! I havent entered any yet, either didnt have the time or just didnt like the challenge so far but mostly it was the former.
would make a good challenge
And yes, F-Zero vehicle + pilot would make an awesome challenge.
lets bloody run this challenge already!!

ok so what are the details? lets get this thing started.
less than 1000 polys(PC could be less than 500 though??)
1x 512x512 colour map
1x 512x512 specular map
1x 512x512 normal map
Basically create a futuristic racer that looks like it could appear in the new Wii Fzero(if there ever is a Wii Fzero ).
P.S. hmmm do normal maps even work on a wii?
anyone else playing along?
Im pretty much done with my fzero racer so go ahead and use this thread as you guys want

So who else is up for this? I did some quick thumbnails today but I'm not sure how much time I'll be able to spare. How does one month sound as a timeframe?
I'm leaning towards F, K, L and N. The pilot would be some kind of cartoony alien animal.
very robertson

yeah i was gonna say this looks a lot like scott robertsons style thumbs...
i do the same things...his dvds are awesome
so 1 month
starting from 1st august
ending on 1st september
? is that tolerable?
Guess it needs paint.
Here's a few shots of the high poly model.
I made this one week ago for some upcoming indie wipeout-like game.
Unfortunately, I'm struggling with the texture (only high quality mode is available in maya no shader works on my rig :x )and I suck at picking colors:
Count me in, I'll whip up something over the weekend.
still messing with it. 700ish

^^ Thought I seen a simular design somewhere, just couldnt point it out.
Badass work so far guys, looking forward to seing more.
I just wish that this would go the full way into some kind of F-Zero clone but for X-Box live.
Awesome stuff guys.
Still needs more work, but the base idear is set. Couldnt quite spank myself to finish it today, prolly tomorrow.
Tasty work guys, keep em comming.
Just plain texture, w/o normal'n'specs.
:edit - Had to ditch a passenger door on the side (will be on the back), so it looks a lil crappy atm.
peppi.. superb work.. as usual ... zzzzzzzz
