activating shadows in maya viewport?

hello, i´ve maya 8.0 license and a gforce 6800go graphics card, i´ve seen that there is a button in the maya viewport (lighting -> shadows) and i think is for activating shadows in real time, i´ve activated it but nothing happens

is my card not supported? or do i´ve to do something especial to my scene?

Did you make sure your light(s) are set to cast shadows?

By default they are not on and you have to tick the Depth Map Shadows.

It only works with Spot-Lights or Directional Lights. Be sure to enable Depth-Map Shadows on the Lights that you want Shadows to be cast from.

many thanks for the fast reply, i was using point lights tried with a spot and works
