We've wrapped up ETQW to critical acclaim, and I can guarantee that our next projects will be at the cutting edge of game technology, and fun as hell
Also i can't concept for toffee:)
The UK in general is warmer than Canada, more expensive than Canada (although the salaries are scaled accordingly) and, well... different
Not sure what the process is like for bringing across Canadians for a work visa, I think it makes it much easier if you have a degree of some sort.
They couldn't do it even though I'm experienced and have a degree but that's because the head office was incompetent (definitely NOT the people I worked with) and didn't have an HR person to handle the paperwork. It was an accountant who was handling all things HR!
The winters in the UK are warmer but the summers are generally cooler than Canada.
Nice people, more alcohol and the people tend to be more foul-mouthed than what you're probably used to (but I found it pretty funny and it was in a good-natured way much more than hostile).
The chocolate is awesome there but while you can find good food, it's much harder to find than in North America. Sorry, but I found the "bad British food" stereotype to be more of a truth than stereotype.
Apologies if I've "muddied-up" this thread. Not meaning to hijack things but I just wanted to give some impressions of my UK experience to better inform other Canadians who seem to want find out more about the UK.
Good luck and again, I apologize if this is the wrong place for this type of post.

My sincerest apologies to Splash Damage and MoP!
We have some seriously cool projects lined up...
Full info and positions here:

I don't know if I will be able though
(Not that I'm trying to hijack the thread.)
it would be cool to make such a big move tho
We have a new website up now too, with an art test for potential candidates if they want a leg up.
http://www.splashdamage.com/?q=node/56
Anyone who completes the art test well will be looked on more favourably than those who don't!
Of course if you have a jaw-droppingly kickass portfolio anyway then you shouldn't need to do the art test
Keg: more expensive than Canada (although the salaries are scaled accordingly)

true but you also get taxed insanely hi and buying a house in london just is not realistic
It's true that buying a house around the London area is going to be very difficult though. Renting is much easier (although obviously less financially sensible in the long run), and sharing is even easier than that.
If you don't have experience and you're outside the EU, the only thing that will really get you a work permit or visa is a degree, unfortunately.
There's also the ancestral route if you have a grandparent born in england. Found that out too late

Has to be certain years though.. They changed the laws so that you can only get a visa/passport if you are direct descendant now (parents not grandparents). But people born before 83, I think thats the age anyways, might still be eligible.
Best thing to do is to call, but embassy's and visa applications are so full of red tape is more frustrating than anything else.

Actually, if you're a commonwealth citizen you're in if you've got a British grandparent. (link). So that's anybody from Canada, Australia, South Africa, India, New Zealand and lots of others. Not the USA though--bummer, really, but they never joined.
Immigration *is* a royal pain in the butt. I'm from Canada and have had a pretty easy time of it so far, but it's still annoying. Entirely worth it, mind you!
nice one on winning the low poly contest, you got my vite.
