hello
i´ve been reading these forums for a while and i think it´s time to show something
this character is for a video, i´m modeling it in low-poly and i will apply a smoth poly later
it´s about 4.500 polys and has 2048x2048 textures diffuse and spec(photosourced). i will change the head as it´s from other old model i´ve done.

That said you're off to a good start. Have a look at some tutorials and some of the other models posted here to get an idea of poly flow and useage. At the moment your textures are doing all the work, while thats fine on very low poly work it shouldn't be the case with a 4500 poly model. Basicly you could achieve the same look you have here with under 1000 polys (not as rounded mind you). There are at least 2 loops around the middle of the vest that are not doing anything for the shape and I'm not going to try and count the excess loops on the legs and arms. Either take them out or put them to use defining the shape. It looks like a medium poly model made by subdividing a very low poly model except you haven't put the added loops to use.
Your UVs look good from what I can see and the textures are great, just get the geo up to speed and you will have a great character.
Good luck and keep posting
Welcome to the boards
the model is for a cinematic video and it will be smothed 3 or 4 levels, that is because i do not care about polygon count or polygon placement,i´ve a done a rig test with the mesh smothed and works pretty good, i will add details like cloth in mudbox when base "low" poly model is finished in maya.
