Well, I'm helping out Team Blur with the overdose project and I'm starting work on the Grunt character for the game.
Heres the concept
Heres my start on the armor, I'm sure most of you can recognise Arsh's base man
I'm modeling all the tech bits for normal mapping in Max and then I'll do the organics and cloth in mudbox.
The poly budget I'm going for is 4000 tris btw. This is going to be a great learning experience for me, sticking to a rigid concept and style whilst still adding a touch of my own style

Buuut...where are his big muscels?? You should do the organics first, at least make a basemesh that is similiar to the concept. Would be annoying if you got to squeeze the guy in a tiny armour!
your not following your concept very accurately, and i like the concept better than the way the armour geometry is right now. (for instance; in the concept you have 5 plates on his belly and in the model 7.)

Bit more form tweaking. Just trying to muss out the major forms before I stuff it into mudbox (saves me time hehe).
Been busy with other stuff for a while but I'm back at it now. Heres todays progres so far.
Still have a lot to do on the boots, smoothing group errors, shaping etc. It will be a while before I'm ready to mudbox this sucker...

I decided to do the low poly first this time around. This is what I have so far, just under 5000 tris without the standin pipes and clasps, those are from the old medium poly and are just to help me with forms.

Carrying all this heavy gear is going to build up a strong upper back and neck, either you armor is silk thin or he has no traps
Raise up the armor on the shoulders, thicken his neck and widen his jaw line for aesthetics
On a personal preference, I lowered the top of the skull just a tad. I felt he looked a bit egg-headed.
Reduce the taper at the bottom of the torso armor. It'll make him appear thicker and more flexible as well as complimenting the silhouette.
The hips and crotch of this guy are in bad shape. Thicken out everything in this area. Not only will he have to have a powerful core and hip flexors to carry all of his gear, but again, the armor isn't paper thin. Thicken and pull it off the body a bit, and it'll also add a nice profile enhancement. Next and most importantly, drop the crotch and build a cup shape as PolyPutty said. Not only does his manhood have to be in there, it has to rest comfortably.
Finally, thicken the thighs a bit to balance out the overall body strength and effective appearance of the armor.

The only thing from your crits I have already planned on doing was the nutt cup That part of the model is not finished to the same level as the rest yet. The rest of the tips weren't even on my radar Gotta love having a few extra sets of eyes to find the problem areas lol.

Changed a lot of stuff from the concept cuz it just wasn't working in 3d. Spent a lot of time on MSN with the project lead artist to nail down the design. Only half way down the body atm, still have to tweak and fix the leg armor and figure out what the hell to do with the belt detail...
C&C welcome as always, need more eyes on this.
Especially in the middle and lower body also the head seems too big.
I´d say keep closer to your original concepts and you´ll have yourself a fine model.
The overall meshflow of the body looks okay but the head let´s it down a bit...too many loops,not enough form.

I have only actually finished (well for this stage anyway) the torso armor, the rest is going to be getting the treatment shortly

Trying to get a better feel for this kinda modeling, I'll add as much detail as I can this way before I go into mudbox and add "texture" and small details to the armor. I really need to get a tablet..
This is turning into a fun project
If anyone has any advice on working with such low res normal maps please speak up, I'm in unknown waters here and would hate to make this just another shite model on my hard disk...
Also, his eye appear too large.

I think I see Johny's point on the eyes, the corners are pretty sharp, I need to round them out a bit.

Some things to note: The 3 main colour zones of the face, the position of the iris and pupil, dont shade with black, the upper lip is wider but thinner than the lower lip.

This is as close as you would really get to the guy ingame so I'll keep my renders at this size from now on. If anyone wants a bigger render just let me know.
