Bah, I can't find any screen shots of it, but did anyone ever play JetFigther II ?
That was an awesome game with horrible (cutting edge for 1990) graphics. It was probably the best flight simulator I've ever played simply because it was complex enough to let you feel like you were actually doing something, but simple enough that you didn't need to memorize a preflight checklist.
I found a copy that I dled, but it won't run past the intro.
I think this becomes a bit distorted with people posting aged technology games with at the time awesome art, I mean, you won't get 3d out of 256 color limited 320x200 art.
XCom is awesomeness in pixel-love
I have to add morrowinds characters to the list though, quite highpoly, and textures where there, but the usage weren't all that correct. (enviroment was sexy however)
I'm sure it's been mentioned already, but my favorite game with the worst art is probably The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. Don't get me wrong, the environments were amazing, but the characters really left something to be desired. The seams were so poorly hidden, and the animations were pretty bad. They seemed almost like an afterthought.
Thankfully, there were third-party mods to clear that issue up, as is the case with a lot of other little nuances found throughout the game.
i think my top pick would be Oblivion - but only with a fraction of the characters in it being "bad." I really, really love the game and the environments, but so help me i couldnt stand 1/4 of it, and toughed it out so i didnt ruin my experience
To be fair both those games looked good when they first came out.

Wow, I remember BioForge.. I think it's the game that had the one line (haven't played it forever, so I don't remember the exact line) that goes something like "If you've come for the fork, you're sadly mistaken". Great game for the time.
For me, a great came with crappy artwork (but still ran great on my 486) was the original Worms.

Unfortunately, the better bodies mod didn't make their faces look any better just their bodies. Which made me sad because I wanted to be a hot elf. At least she had a hot body.
Wow after seeing the pics for Morrowind(never actually played it tho), I have *got* to vote that as #1. The environments look great, but the characters look like something from a bad q1 mod or something.
One of my favourite series of all time is LEGACY OF KAIN! Unfortunately, there very first game was crap, but the rest of them were great. The art in the first game's intro was a big turn-off. See for yourselves!

I guess my new game counts then! :P

Jagged Alliance Movie
Do not want. They do talk about the upcoming DS port though. I'd sell my unicorn for that.

holy cow...I remember that game! I never could get adjusted to the controls.
here's my contributions:
the hugo games:
pickle wars (not toooo bad except everyone else was making doom clones):
And last, this gem:
I dunno how much I played that game without ever understanding its point, story, controls, or anything that was going on. It was ambitious though...

You lose!
(seriously though, HoMM is consistently awesome, and the last one even has lovely art, shockingly enough)

I think MM7 is the best of the MM series, it's truly amazing

Hah, my boss is the man behind the Might&Magic series. He's pretty aware of how heinous the graphics were
A game beloved by the masses chock full of the worst, boxiest, untextured and inconsistantly scaled characters ever!

But I think my favorite game with crap art would be
Tenchu: Stealth Assassins for the Ps1. God awful art, but very entertaining gameplay.
Final Fantasy 7.

I totally have to disgagree with that. We call that style.

Ah cmon, Armed and Dangerous's art wasn't THAT bad... well, the hands could have used some work.
Daz that is waay cool having a boss like that. I really loved those series as a kid eventhough the graphics sucked.

walking around the character were very simple, but the battle mode characters and enemies were nice.
