It's interesting, but there are two factors here, the materials that it's made out of and the lighting it was photographed in. And the official image doesn't represent what you see. So it's a red herring, but I understand that it's sort of publicity stunt I reckon.
To Stinger88, not that i want to criticize or anything but this dress was shown on yahoo, MSNBC, Reddit, Thumblr, instagram, FB, Twitter all at once in the last 60 seconds.

lol, wow, I had not heard about that yet. Someone got fired, for that one. They yanked the hell out of that cape.
They actually did exactly what they were supposed to do - SHE effed up. She was supposed to untie the cape by a certain cue, and couldn't get it undone. If anyone got fired, it wasn't the cape yanker, it was whoever tied the cape.
