"If you can find a PS3 anywhere in North America that's been on shelves for more than five minutes, I'll give you 1,200 bucks for it. I can get any retail buyer on the phone with you and get them to verify that there's not a single retail location in America where there's a PlayStation 3 on the shelf for sale. They've all been sold in a matter of minutes."

Hell yeah! Looks like I'm about to be $18,000 richer (every store in my area has at least 3 of 'em)

edit: OK, I read it again and it sounds like he's offering to buy it off of you for $1200, I'm pretty sure he's not going to honor this.

He's probably being sneaky. So you buy one that's on the shelf, then when you make a claim he says "But it's not on the shelf, you bought it" or some bollocks like that hehe.

Another way of seeing this is "We made a product, and you can't buy it!".

There's something really pathetic and desperate about his comment. It's like a drunkard who talks big about how strong he is and claims he can lift a full keg over his head... and then when he finally tries it, he fails miserably and just brushes it off by saying, "I can rip a phonebook in half! Does anyone here have a phonebook? I bet you $1200 I can rip a phonebook in half."

I also assume that "offer" was directed at the interviewer and, as Keyser pointed out, was meant to be more boisterous than a serious offer. Kinda like on the playgrounds as kids when you would bet someone "a million bucks" over some nonsense that you were sure you were right and they were wrong about.

The only thing I can say that might be in his favor is when did they do this interview? I'd assume it was at least a month or so ago in order to get it ready for print.
