Help, Custom Forearm Rigs

Hey all. I searched but nothing came up... If this has been covered then sorry!

I've created a custom rig but im having a horrible time getting a decent working forearm rig. I've tried the two-bone method (radius & ulna) and the wrist twist method from James Haywoods' tutorials http://jhaywood.com/croiProjectArm00.htm

The two bone method is insanely difficult to skin while the wrist twist method does some weird twisting on the wrong axis. Ie: The forearm twists normally when rotating the hand on the z axis but the forearm still twists on the z axis while the hand twists on x and y... its only wired for the z axis!

Does anyone have some info or tutorials to help me out or can suggest a particular method that works for them and somewhat looks good?

Thanks!

Yeah, I know there's a better way to set up the twist bones so you don't get that extra rotation, but I haven't done any rigging in a while and never got around to figuring it out exactly. I'm pretty sure you need to go with more than one helper object between the hand and twist bones, one for the twist rotation axis, and another for the other two.

You might want to check out the CreatureTD forums:

    Or the CGTalk rigging forum.

One way to get around unwanted rotations though is to always use Gimbal mode, instead of Local, when you're animating the wrist helper object. The problem is that Local mode can actually move more than one axis at a time once you get away from its initial orientation.
