Spark my man, you've been pimping some pretty quality work in P&P, so i'm expecting a good effort from you. let's get some content into this thread, eh? treat it like a P&P post.. you wouldn't be caught dead posting a topic with so little in it over there, now would you?
Heheh Gauss, you are right:) Just coming off of a little crunch and have been playing with a few ideas. Here is where I am at with the current concept, a insane creature that has a rider per say that helps control his rage and direction (needless to say, you don't want to be on the other end of it) It is a close combat creature, and I plan on having some sort of blades that are bolted into the forearms of the beast. The vertabrae of the rider is fused with the creature, but he still needs to direct it with his little claws. Any crits or comments are always appreciated, and I plan to have this guy done by sometime tommorrow (hopefully).
i like that pole that pokes out from the top, maybe an umbrella? ..some indian-elephant-rider rugs....
an elephant nose... tubes from his gas mask connecting to the beast.. maybe dump the leash? they don't have to fight.. just some ideas
That's looking wicked. I like the idea of adding in the blades bolted in to the forearms and am anxious to see it once you have it flushed out a bit more. My only crit at this point is that it needs bigger boobs.
Simply badass. Mr. Blaster's anatomy is interesting enough to carry the character without it having to be completely covered by weapons. It's going to be hard to show this guy off though in the final renders. Make sure to spend a decent amount of time working on Master, as he'll likely garner just as much attention as Blaster.
Hey guys, thanks for all the comments:) And I didn't remember Master Blaster, but when I looked it up I had to laugh, I guess this is his second cousin twice removed:) Ahh well, trying to do something fun for me. I am not quite sure what type of blades that I will have on the forearms, or how big they will go, so any ideas will help. I added ribs jetting out, so when he gives a big warm hug, well you get a poke and die! Thanks again for all the comments, and I will finalize this guy tonight.
awwwsome! great job!
btw do you draw this in photoshop or with paper and pecil? (I think with paper and pecil but i'm not sure, couse you get pretty clean lines.)
Hey guys, finally finished the sketch, just wanted to flesh out a few more things and hopefully it flows nicely in the modeling faze. Japhir: I use photoshop, it's a little slower and for me its a little harder to build up my line, but being able to manipulate your sketches is just to hard to pass up. Askhat/MoP/and Snowfly, thanks for the kudos, and ditto on your threads, I just can't see us losing this war after seeing all of polycounts entries. Sectaurs, I think the reason you liked it is that the upper body felt larger, something I felt to, so in this final sketch I made the forarms larger, making his upper body become more important, rather than the legs competing with the overall form. I hope you guys like the direction and changes, and now onto the modeling:)
Awesome drawing/concept dude.
Only thing I would say is that the main guy seems fantasy, while the little guy on top is pure sci-fi. Perhaps a little more sci-fi aspects bleeding into the main brute guy.
As it is though, it's generally really cool with nice details.
very steady and very excellent progression. i claim all credit by spurring you on with my first post
photoshop is a hell of a program, innit? i think it's great that you've basically kept it to a very powerfully manipulative sketchbook--no need to mess around with anything other than the important stuff. and now you've got that nailed, so we are all waiting for some 3d sauce to follow up the concept entree glad to see you turn out a design that focuses on your pet imagery to such great effect.
very nice indeed. It's been a while since I looked at your work in detail, mister spark, you are definitely fleshing things out more throughly. Right away I'd want to see two things: one some thumbnail silhouette studies. small quick things is all; front and side. 2nd some detail sketches on the back. I don't think you need to explore all of the back in detail though. mostly the waist up. I think we can all assume what the back of the ankle is going to look like. I wanna see how that is interfacing with the torso. After that maybe some quick color studies to get your balance and direction down and it'll be good to go...
Dude awesome stuff... I want to see mesh, specially since you did all those bad ass zbrush heads a ways back... love how you incorporated the pcount face...
Hey all, thanks for the reply's as it is totally helpfull. R13: I would love to touch upon those things, as I agree they are something that should always be done, but due to time I will have to try and fix those things down the line. Today I decided to get started on the geometry for my character, so I created the skull for Torn's necklace, something small to get warmed up on, but thought since I will be using it on the character, as well as the base (all the dead, that tried to go up against polycount!) it would be good to get it out of the way. Hope you guys like it, and again any comments and crits are always appreciated!
It looks great so far, Brett. The big/small guy symbiosis has been done before, but this looks incredibly fresh and original. Details like the protruding ribs and spine add a lot of character. The monster is genuinely terrifying!
From a rigging standpoint, my only concern would be how the little guy on the back interacts with the big guy. Is he pretty much strapped in, tilted back at that angle rigidly at all times? How much play will he have in shifting around, etc. Can he lean forward or back? The reason I ask is because the main guy has big spikey things coming off the back of his head, which in this pose, seem to clear the face of the little man. Depending on the big guys actions, I can see circumstances where something risks passing through another object during extreme movements. All is probably avoidable with proper setup, just laying this out as my only potential flags with the design.
Your art is looking solid otherwise, and I agree some additional shots would probably help flesh out some of the other areas. However, if you're the one building it, this becomes less important. Keep up the great work on this; can't wait to see those tiny details come to life!
So i decided to come see what the enemy has... and holy crap, freakin wickedly badass.
Only thing i can think of is maybe adding some sort of trac that the blades (on the forarms) can slide on aka thrust forward. Since his upper body is so big, this would help your problem with him trying to run or walk around with those blades jabbing into the ground and would also be nice for a sweet brutal stabs, and swift limb chopping!
Anyway, looking forward to battle sir.

Hey, I appreciate you guy's dropping in and helping give me some great feedback.
Thegodzero: Hahah nice one, still can't believe that was the final skull for the movie
Creativicious: Thank you sir, and you should post more often of your cool work, as I have seen it
Zcubed: Thanks, I will try and push those more to make it even more unique.
Bobo: Awesome that you dropped in, and really waiting to see what you bring to this war.
Csa3d: I plan on having some sort of gear and pully system to counteract the movements of the beast, I will flesh those out in geometry and post where I will be going, also the hair will be shorter and the small head has a anti hair poking glass around him to be safe.
Rhinokey: Yeah wasn't thinking he would be thrown to much.
Onelung: That is a good idea, a few others mentioned that the blades would get stuck in the ground, so either make them more wide at the base or bring them up on the arm. I plan on playing with a few ideas to flesh this out, as i still think it needs work.
this skull is a pure beauty man !! If you can (and of course you can) reach this level of quality for the whole model, it's gonna win something for sure
Love the concept and if the model is anywhere as good as the concept art, and so far it is looking that way, then I think we might have a contender for the crown!!!
this is real cool man.... for the blade arms things... if u want switch blades: i think u should check out Altair's switchblade from assassin's creed... just google the phrase, i couldn't find specifics, sorry.
basically, the guy, Altair, had to get his ring finger cut off as a part of his initiation as a Hashassin, so that a switchblade concealed in his sleeve can pop out through where the ring finger was. Maybe u could scar this guy in a similar fashion?
lookin' real awesome man, just be sure that the guy on the back doesn't begin to look too much like Spacemonkey's "Brood" (last year's entry).
Here is an update of my base mesh for Torn, I still have to go over this with polyboost and retopologize it as there are some problem areas. But wanted to show that I am doing something:). Any comments or crits are always welcomed.
This's lookin great Spark... He's gonna be cool no matter what you do but your sketch has some really bold bony protrusions and muscle direction changes that might've been lost in translation...Things like the way that elbow juts out and the big broad sweep of the forearms and how punched out the calves are in the concept sketch... I kinda like the longer feet and thinner overall feel as well... Seriously looks awesome already but you could "take it to eleven!!!" Keep up the pressure, this is gonna be a contender!!

I'd say the disembodied head backpack needs some work, but I'm loving the idea and the monster.
i really love the concept!
itll look awesome!
Now finish those stumps !
I love MasterBlaster!
can't wait to see some progress on this.
needs a penis though...
an elephant nose... tubes from his gas mask connecting to the beast.. maybe dump the leash? they don't have to fight.. just some ideas
Commence sweetness, go!

keep on!
the arm blades are a cool idea, but the current shape makes me think he can transform into a sledge during the winter.
badass concept, though!
