first pass at a concept... getting my ideas in order.
thats a wing, not an arm, and it will be feathered, as will other parts of him. I'm now just trying to get the anatomy for him down, though it needs some major reworking, as I've decided he needs some arms for manipulating weapons and such. Watch out, he's a sprinter.
hoooray! another creature feature from Sectaurs!
pity i can't help you out with a sketch or two myself right now, but i scarcely think you need it. a few points:
i'll play the voice of conscience or the devil's advocate, depending on how you hear it: i've noticed that you tend to like to draw your beasties in profile, like what you've got posted. while this approach has its advantages, it also has its dangers.
creatures and critters and beasties, especially the kind you're considering, are much too complex to be properly considered in profile view--and certainly much too complex to be properly designed in profile. i know it seems easier, but you're actually cheating yourself of critical dimensional considerations in the character design. so before you get any further i hereby demand that your further sketches be done in 3/4ths view. it's okay if they're sketchier, or if the perspective sucks, whatever--but you can't come up with some sort of novel limb configuration and really expect to nail their dynamics, their relation to each other etc. in a strictly profile view. i only say it because of course i'm a frequent offender myself.
that said, you might consider keeping the big tapering limbs as they are, and adding a secondary set of manipulating-type arms with hands inset just under the big arms. going with a six-limb config could give you some interesting territory for action poses and the like--the big main limbs sprawled, mid-stride, while the smaller arms hold a gun or whatever. just a thought.
in any case, of course, you are absolutely required to keep us well updated of any and all changes.
Gauss, you're right about doing things from the side... I guess its just easier for me when thinking about anatomy and such [especially with plans on modeling] to do things that way, but thats no reason not to try and make some more interesting concepts. So thats what tonight's doodle is.
After doing this, I've cemented some definite changes I want to make. So stay tuned!
I'm not a fan of what's happening with the chest. It almost looks like it belongs on the back. Looking forward to seeing these cemented changes though.
Cool wing, really got that gothic feel down. However, I feel the first face you had (dripping orifices, ect) was a bit more interesting than this more human face. The tentacles just don't seem to fit with the rest of the piece.
The whole feel of this character is nice and dark. I likes. His skin has some nice translucency to it. It would be nice if you could that carried over to the 3D version. Awesome work so far!
I watched Return of the King the other day with some friends, and realized that my original design was far too close to the Nazgul dragon thingies, so I decided I needed to mix it up a bit. So now he's much more humanoid, which I actually like a bit more. He'll look more natural wearing armor now, as well. I hope...
Appreciate all the kind words from y'all. Sticking the original head on this body doesn't look all that bad, either, so there's hope. I sat down to work on this today and realized I don't have access to the original, so here's a quickie over the cropped version posted here... mostly just screwing around.
I really thing the snake tail is throwing it off balance - the composition balance, not the "i can't stand up without it because my wings are so heavy" balance.
too many damn ideas in my head... too much fun noodling around with them all. think I'll go with this head currently on him... seems the most popular, and I'm rather fond of it myself. Though the space-walrus heads on the left amuse me greatly.
you're starting to get a little lost in noodley-land, sectaurs! bring back the focus, man. remember, this has got to be a character, not just a monster, so let that guide your considerations of lizard heads or walrus faces and the like. i like where you're going with the design, but you need to get off some of the scenic routes and get back on the expressway to AWESOMETOWN, PA.
(why Awesometown is in Pennsylvania, i haven't the faintest.)
so this is what you were doing instead of shooting heads! really fucking rad treatment on him - i prefer this new direction you're playing with actually. i think he needs more dexterous elements. his form makes him look pretty stiff. in other words, he looks impressive/cool now he needs to look threatening. keep doing what you're doing!
ive got an idea... since you keep switching from one badass idea to another...make a swarm of really low poly badasses that have a hive mind. just a thought, i like it though
wow, thanks guys. Glad you like this guy, I'm digging him a lot more. I was a little too focused on random parts I wanted to model... was all feeling too forced.
Some slight tweaks to him[her?] and I think I'm happy. Now for some armor. I've scribbled lots of ideas down, but nothing I'm real happy with yet. So if any of you badasses want to do paint-overs of some armor, feel free
The black stripes on the face and the legs add so much to the feel of the character. Maybe if you took idea and made some kind of organic armour that implemented that same style, it could look pretty rad.
wow! much cooler than the prev. idea (and that wasn't bad itself)
hmm... armour.... i'd agree with casey jones about the organic armour. S/he doesn't look like s/he'd put on large metallic chunks to protect his/hereslf... it looks too proud a creature to underestimate its own bodily abilities.
lookin' good... and i definately like those horns...
Your artwork is fabulous mate, I prefered the the earlier sketches but any of the above would look good. I hope your model turns out as well! Get on it!
comrad, i think you are mostly 100% insane secs concept and that model have little to nothing in common besides having the same ammount of legs and arms... whoops NOT EVEN THAT MUCH.

I feel like this thing should be very wet for some reason. dripping slop all over the place. Looks really nice.

Stop talking or we will see the front version of General Anulus.

Comments and Criticisms welcome as always
Superb.
Question: Does he have feet or hands or are they always going to be off the screen? Or do they tapper down to stabby spikes?

Seriously though, I think it is looking cool. Maybe it will need some kind of biomechanical magic-tech stuff in the end, but the shapes are cool.

It is suppose to be a face, right?
sorry...

That said , I like the oval headed beast best.
