that is really cool, I would really like to know your process for modeling this, especially the tread in the tires.

for the tires, i model the thread flat, extrude the bumps and then bend the track on 360
Check out this version I googled
I realize your not going for a transformable version, I just thought this one was cool.
By the way whats with all the blank space to the right of the model? I agree with EQ lets crop it and save the bandwitdth.
...just couldn't resist ... ... aho!
Ah, the nostalgia...
Iow, great job, keep going!
I do like your retro approach on him. Looks just like my Optimus Prime action figure back from childhood.

do u belive i still have it? lol (the toy) its almost 20 years old and in pretty good shape haha
As for the other Prime that was shown on here. Thats actually got a video that goes with it that shows it transforming. It's pretty impressive just like the rest of the guys work. It's at www.3dblasphemy.com
at least when you compare him to 20th anniversary Prime's transformation.
Looking really good, are you going to be rigging it for animation after? I'd be interested to see how you will be handling the joints like the elbows and knees (especially the elbows as it doesnt look like you would not get much movement there at the moment but I could be wrong)

i dont know how to rig/animate so i guess its just for still renders atm.. =\
i think its wrong on the that toy cause those legs just bend backwareds O_O

They're not actually. Have you ever handled a 20th anniversary Prime? His transformation is a bit more complex than the original G1 Prime's.
His crotch area rotates 180 degrees backwards and then his legs fold back. They then telescope in and his feet rotate and get straightened out.
here, look.

lookin' great!
edit: -or does it hinge at the inner elbow and not where the main cylinders are

yea thats what i had in mind but im planing redoing the joints and make everything more detailed later when ill have it all built
thanx guys
This looks awesome. Are you working from a orthographic image template or have basic primitives set for all the parts. I'm not certain but he looks a bit too wide in proportion to the Optimus I remember and that toy pic. But perhaps its just the angle.
