Copy one side over to the other?

I tried to use the mirror tool but for some reason it's acting up and not mirroring correctly.

I also did not align the model to 0.0 center when I exported, could that also be the problem?

I am talking bout the mirroring pen tool for those that might think otherwise.

Hope to get some assitance.

If I have to do the exact same designing for the other side that would suck mucho buttox!

Before you export, mirror and weld the model together. The mirror pen tool just makes whatever you draw on one side, automatically also draw on the other.

I went to the lowest detail 'layer' and deleted half the model, from there I am lost I checked the hotkeys for assitance but no luck after an hour of testing stuff...

Guess the last thing to do it export half the model and just clone it over... ah well I guess since it's beta they don't have those options available. Might have to go over to Zbrush to do highpoly stuff, that damn interface... uhg...

with an off center mesh you will need to turn on tangent symmetry, select 2 faces on the lowest sub-d level that are on your the axis you want mirrored and go to mesh -> set topological axis. Then you can simply mirror your mesh via the layer tab(click the arrow and do mirror tangent). Mudbox wont let you delete and mirror, but it can mirror your details that have been painted on one side to the other pretty flawlessly, this is really nice because sometimes when you're working it will loose symmetry a bit, esp if you're using tangent symmetry painting a mesh thats a posed or something at a wierd angle.

if you've got them perfectly alligned on the X axis you can simple mirror your layer on x as well. Most times i've lost symmetry it was using tangnet, well atleast thats when its most noticeable, sometimes ill lose it using X but wont really notice. Have you had it bug out on you trying to mirror x? Or did you import that hands as 2 different meshes? You couldnt do anything with it that way.

Ok apparently you can only mirror layers if you set a symmetry axis first, and you cant do that with something like a hand that has no mid point, so a hack around this might just be to throw a quadball in the center thats hidden inside your model that you can set the symmetry axis on before you start sculpting. Just incase anyone else wants to work like this.

IDK what the heck im doing I tried those procedures and got no results is it because I have triangles instead of quads?

This was a model imported from max as a .OBJ and sculpted in mudbox.

Should have mentioned that I guess.

Uhg I can't work on this in mudbox if I cant get this type of thing to work, good thing they are setting up license for mudbox 1.0 already over at there site.

Guess if those didn't know already theres the news.

Thanx guys for helping me, I was trying to mirror a shield design im going to pimp soon, it will also be a learning process for all those other additonal maps everyones useing lately.

This is opactiy, bump, spec, color, glow, blah blah, wish they where all in one tutorial... Anyone want to assist, If i knew these processes I would have made tutorials =/.

Knowlegde is power, it seems... frown.gif
