Having problems with the new Maya, to be precise, uv-mapping. A little illustration (cmon, who will guess the first line?). Does anyone have a clue, what am I doing wrong?
I haven't used Maya in a while, but don't you need another node in between the map and the material, something like "PlaceImage2D"?
I might be way off there, though.
I dont suppose you could have applied those auto-unwrapped UVs to a different UV set than the one that the material is referencing? which I think is called "map1" by default?
Do you have any custom scripts installed? I had an issue similiar to this. Fixed it by deleting the Maya folder in mydocs and letting Maya create a new one.
Your problem is really bizarre. I recreate your exact steps in under a minute and it works totally fine.

You might try posting your files. I cant recreate the problem.
It might just be that you are never allowed to delete the "first" default map, the "map1". Then why not move your desired result to "map1" instead and delete the other map?
Even if map1 is the only uv set it still goes crazy when moving, il post the model and the texture again and maybe somebody can figure out what am i doing wrong.
Make sure your object is selected
Edit > Delete by type > History
Reason it's messing you is because you have sh*tloads of history such as UVProjections etc. that are still projecting from a fixed point in world space.

Select the cube>select UV set map11>polygons>Copy Uvs to UVset map1. Delete the not needed UV set.
