If you've clicked the link you're either a.) curious as to wtf this is about or b.) been contacted by them before.

We just received a call here (automated) from a company called "NCO Financial services", which claims to be a collection agency. Both myself and my girlfriend don't have out-standing debt, so we thought this call to be weird.

We've checked Google and they seem to be a shady collection agency. Pretty much all links I've found claim that they're a scam and that the phone call should not be returned.

From what I've seen they're all over North America so I'm wondering if anyone here has ever been contacted by them, or if anyone has dealt with this sort of thing before.

NCO Collection Agency is the collection agency for Paypal. Paypal is the biggest worthless scamming piece of shit in the known universe. I'm actually taking care of a supposed $413 debt that I don't really owe. I just got a letter saying basically "pay us this money or we'll fuck over your credit! but we won't tell you what it's for!!!" After a phone call and 2 letters I still don't know what the debt is over. Write them a letter that says simply, "I dispute this debt, it is invalid." Usually that makes them stop bugging you or gets them to agree to a settlement. What did they contact you regarding? Let me know what happens, and I'll keep you updated too. Also check out the sitemap for www.paypalsucks.com and they should have something about the collection agency and what to do if you're contacted by them.

From what I gather its for an old bill we had 2 years ago worth $94. Sympatico, our old ISP, contacted us in Vancouver (they're back in Ontario) about the bill that they had passed on to a collections agency. We had to return our modem (which we must had forgotten about) in order to remove the debt, which my girlfriends mom did.

So now I'm thinking they went to the debt collectors BEFORE the modem was returned. I'm calling Sympatico tomorrow to see what happened on their end. If they've got my old account marked down as paid-in-full then NCO can go fuck themselves as I'm sure I'm in for a whirl-wind of harrassment.

sonic, if you can do it in the US I suggest getting an online credit report. Canada has Equifax. Doing so doesn't reflect negatively on your credit history as its you checking it personally.

I checked and there's no history with a collector. Look's like NCO is blowing steam.

Can't you sue them for fraud or harrasment or something?
