Wait for independent confirmation. This thing started smelling like a shell game yesterday with lots of bluffing going on. Nukes, particularly underground ones give off tectonic signatures. If they tested, then there will be readings.
this is nothing more than a confirmation of what we already knew. they are just hoping to get more negotiation power and economic help by showing off their weapons. fortunately, their nuke is probably around 100 tons and they don't have a missile that can transport 100 tons.
North Korea and South Korea at night.
That one little light in N. Korea (the capitol) must be where all the money goes. Apparently to them it is "military first, eat second."
Fear mongering is always going on, allthough still very alarming.
They have not been touched, because south korea is just right under them , the borders are heavily guarded, north korea has a broad range of missiles to fire at Souel wich would be a major catastrophy if someone blindly starts wageing war on them.
Not to forget that China has a "brother till the end" deal with NK but now they at least officially took a quick and harsh stance towards NK on this issue.
We will see how strongly they will enforce the sanctions to come. (wich will make even more people starve because then they will have NOTHING)
The crazy thing imho is that now the surrounding countrys are starting to think about working on nuke weapons to.
"Hey damn! now that they have made the first step into the direction of building an arsenal of worldthreatening weapons, let's get some of our own, never can be sure, we want to at least take part when we blow ourselves to destinction"
China as major nukepower in that region will hopefully proove itself diplomatically in that region so that they don't have to deal with nukepowers around them.
I mean, who wants a few quirky nations in your backyard that could really start some major trouble.
USA and Japan allready talking about a missile defencesystem $$$ if not in space then on earth.
Century of getting back to the roots, this time we will really put an end to ourselves, gogogo monkeys!
Weird pic, only one man!!! how messed up with that
only it could cause Japan to start developing nukes, and then there's India which is next to Pakistan which is next to Afghanistan, which is next to Iran...
alarmist maybe but you should think what the consequences could be. it is a big deal but really i'm not too worried at the moment either. they can't hit Kentucky yet (not that there is anything worth nuking here anyway).

Right... you realize that India and Pakistan are two of the nine countries that official have nuclear warheads? In fact, both India and Pakistan have quite a bit more than N. Korea.
The funny thing is the current government in N. Korea is more than likely all bark and no bite. But the sanctions the US is pushing for would destabilize N Korea so much that it would collapse and then we have nukes up for grabs. A perfect example of the current presidents monkey hand trap mentality.
I'm sorry, does disagreeing with a particular US policy (in this case, the sanctions Vig is referring to) equate to being "anti-US administration"? I thought this was America, where citizens are free to disagree with dear leader.
I certainly disagree (almost universally) with our dear leader but Miles has a good point; that the anti-bush monster sprang into this thread without any provocation.
Anti-bush monster? I don't see anything inappropriate about Vig's post. It wasn't inflammatory or unreasonable at all. Mile's response to it was more confrontational than the post itself. I don't see what's wrong with him expressing his opinion.
Much worse is the human tragedy behind all this, just imagine how much could have been done to help the (often starving) people of North Korea with all those funds that went into developing that damned useless thing.

There's hope there, I 'spose.. If China were fully behind it, it would be even more worrying.
