I am trying to work on this on my laptop but it doesnt seem to support max running directx shaders in the viewport :_( ... which is a big since theres allot I would like to do on this guy.
Thanks for the feedback, I'll be taking it into account as I get more time to work on him.
Looking awesome man. While I like how the color map is coming along, I can't help but think you could unify the colors and values some. It seems a bit all over the place right now. Not really sure what you could do though, just throwing that out there.
OMG you make me feel so bad about my self, how am i going to go through life knowing i have been in love with a mutant dwarf . I am not 100% sure about the diffuse with the darker red on the areas hit by light, it kind of goes against what i would expect from natural lighting and makes it a bit distracting for me as they seem to fight. Lovely model, cool in so many different ways.
What a cool character. I had no idea what a monster-hunter would look like, but you got it - a crazy little gluten pisshead mutant. He really fits the bill for me.
As mentioned, the colours ain't working yet.
Looks nice dude, I like the gear placement and the amount of character in this. My only suggestion (crit) would be to incorporate more small details.. problably in the gear. I think it would help add more contrast with large and small details.
Yeah awesome job on the monkey...only crit would be a personal choice and that is regarding the confederate-esque loin cloth, I would change it to something further removed from something we would see in our world (like the rest of this piece)
either way keep up the awesome work, your stuff is always looking great dude.
tremulant, well to be honest I think I changed it enough that if you hadnt seen previous shots with it on, you wouldnt make that association. I've made it look like it is simply stripes with stars inside and I feel comfortable that its not communicating the wrong message now
Oh yeah, I added a little fake bloom and drool in photoshop. If he was in a realtime engine I'd like to have seen animated drool (my fx guys are good at this) and some real bloom happening of course :S
I'm sad there isn't a floating alien baby like planned but really it is an amazing job without it.
I think his loin cloth(s) are a little too clean especially with the mouth drooling like that, they would be more soiled and wet in places. Really great work I'm glad you finished him he has a ton of character and your stuff is always creative! Whenever I see your stuff I always think back to your Jedi KnightII stuff, even back then you did some amazing work I'm glad it got you where you're at and you are still working on personal stuff!
wow, i really like this! I agree with Vig about the loincloth, but other than that...
oh, and i'm looking forward to ur dominance war entry... loved the last one
[edit:] i just realised... i wanted to ask how you got the parts to look like they are glowing? is it just a simple set of self illumination and diffuse map or are you using a specific shader or something? (or is that what u photoshopped in?)
One small thing still - considering how bright your background is you might want to crank up the ambient on the character to make it fit into it's surroundings a bit more (ala matrix weapon racks scene) / or darken the background. Also the shading indicates a backlight setup but the ground shadow tells the opposite. Lazy! :P
Great character tho! Loving the materials you develoopped.
That's awesome on such a high level man.
Now he's hideously... cute & innocent, a childish giggle over the corpse he just made behind him.
I'm under the impression that the belt needs work, I look at it and it still bugs me, mostly because I can't really tell where you're going with it, it looks like somethin cheap & tacky from the 80s.
It looks to me like the center segments should be metallic due to the scratches but it comes off looking more like thin dull plastic.

I like specially the small detail - "saliva" .

I suck at skinning/rigging but I gave it a go.
