Alright, I have a question for you guys and gals out there regarding art tests. As a game artist I realize that often times you are going to be asked to wear multiple hats. However it seems like art tests should be tailored to fit the position you are applying for. Well after doing several phone interviews (with the same company) and outlining what my strengths were (modeling, texturing, concept art) I have been sent an animation test...Now my question is should I just try to plow through it assuming it is what they want me to do, despite explicitly saying that animation wasn't my forte, or should I send an email back asking if I was sent the correct test? Would that be considered impertinant?

everything. You don't want to do something for a position your not interested in and your not qualified to do. He needs to take care of this now or he could risk loosing the opportunity all together if he turns in a sub par test for something he never intended to do in the first place.

i can't see why they would send you an animation test if you weren't applying as one.
you also have alot of free time to waste (that free time isnt free it costs alot)
i just re-read it and jezus i need brain- fixed
I've never worked in games, but I've worked for a few companies with similar HR ...issues.
