A good, low cost HDTV?

Well, I'm just about finished paying off my laptop and just bought an XBOX 360 + Dead Rising. I've got a regular TV and the blurry text is a real deal breaker for me, Dead Rising was the only reason I got the 360, not really excited by any other titles.

So any suggestions on a decent HDTV that is a decent price? I might go as high as $700 if it is really worth it.

its all about the reviews and the res. that its one hell of a deal being as its 30in and its super hi res. Dont know what it gets review wise but its LG and LG has never screwed me thus far.

Dont forget to get that one that has that certification or plug or something.. Someone here should know what Im refering to that allows you to watch HDDVD/Blue Ray movies at the full HD level (security precaution so people wont copy). Otherwise you will only be limited to DVD resolution playback.

Make sure it's 780p or higher. Don't get the 1024x768 versions. LG and Pioneer make some great versions of HDTVs right now if you are looking for names.

DOnt Buy an RCA...my day Job I deal with Tvs...RCA= constant service issues..also JVC is crap...Your best bet would be a mitsubishi...or a Phillips Magnavox...the Mitsubishis are more $, but they are built like tanks and they will last forever

If you're going for budget, I can't recommend the philips 8420 enough. It's 30", HD, has an HDMI connector and component, and comes with free shipping! Of course you have to get it refurb for the extremely low price, but it comes with a 90 day warranty (and Philips has amazing service) in case you somehow get a lemon.

Sonic, only problem with that TV is it doesn't support 720P resolution which is more or less than standard 360 res,

Ah well, I kind of went nuts this morning and bought a Samsung LNS3241D 32" LCD and a cheap-o entertainment center from Wal Mart. I realized I'm always living super frugal but I don't have car payments or rent and my student loan payments are pretty low, so what the hell, a TV lasts longer than a computer anyway (I hope!)

Robert: the 360 upconverts the 720p to 1080i, and the TV can actually convert a 720p signal into 1080i if the source can't.

just grabbed the vga cable for the 360. amazing the difference it makes in dead rising. honestly I can see the text for the most part on my 19" monitor from my bed (about 5-8ft away).

basically it's a low cost solution to get hd for the 360.

I personally wouldn't of bought that TV, cause it doesn't have a native res of 1080 lines. If you are happy with the image quality, than cool.

1080p is still a ways out, and 1080i sucks for games. 720p is the current sweet spot for games, which is what the Samsung TV supports. 1080i is like playing a PC game with VSync turned off. Turn too fast, and you get screen tearing or other artifacts. 1080i right now, is realy only good for pictures or movies.

1080p will certainly be the cream of the crop, but is the little bit of added resolution realy worth an extra $400-500 that it will cost you for the TV?

Best advice I can give you.. they usually always have a TV on coupon and you'll never need to worry about warranties or returns. I bought a Toshiba 65" HDTV last year for $1600 and if the speaker popping sounds dont go away soon, I'll be able to take it back and get $1600 towards any TV they have. You cant go wrong I tell ya!

heh, I am not suggesting that 1080p is a good option for anyone... quote the opposite..I think its silly that the PS3 touts 1080p... I cant wait to see what games run at that... Bomberman maybe.

I've been playing Dead Rising at 1080i and it runs like a charm, but I have noticed tearing in some of the demos I've downloaded.
