Good cheap PC gamepads?

My pair of Gravis Gamepad Pro USBs bought in 2005 wore out really quick from intense CPS2-(puzzle)fightery. Anything out there that's sub-$40 and actually reliable? (preferably from any personal experience)

(oh, and the original gamepad pro gameport pad is still working well, except it lacks all compatiblity with winxp 64 and it's also lost)

Apparently it's fairly easy to mod an xbox controller to usb, so there is always that. (Dunno waht they cost). I personally prefer my good ol' mouse/keyboard combo.

really.. other than Saitek and Logitech, you have no good options, If you want to drop the cash for one of those, head somwhere that has those kinds of things and try them out till you find one you like, otherwise, get a Xbox to USB adapter, and your favorite xbox controller.. best option there is on PC. Also, Xbox 360 gamepads come in wired form, which work on the PC

i highly recommend the wired xbox 360 controller, it is usb and it feels great. also, have it for when you actually buy an xbox360 i think it was around $30 at target.

agreed, 360 controller all the way. just have to buy a normal xbox 360 wired controller and download the drivers off microsoft's website. instead of paying more for the one with the windows drivers included.

Agreed, finished Tomb Raider with the 360 controller on pc, very nice.

I bought a PS2 converter which cost me £7 I believe, but it handles two PS2 controllers. For the price having the ability to play mutliplayer was un-matched but it depends on if you have two ps2 controllers lol

Speedlink Stormtrooper. Dirt cheap, nice deadzone on the analog in digital mode, perfect for fighting games and the button numbers are arranged so that all those japanese freeware games have the two buttons in a line under your thumb as opposed to next to each other. Dunno about durability, mine is undamaged but I didn't exactly try throwing it at a wall.

The 360 controller registers the dpad as a coolie hat (at least with the opensource drivers I'm using) which means diagonals aren't handled properly by some emus or games. Analog-stick deadzones may not be to your liking in many games which means it's not very suitable for 2d games. I don't use it for those, Melty Blood works much better with the Stormtrooper and an old Sidewinder gamepad.
