looking nice, but i sort of agree with mop, but at the same time i know you have been making console games and you have to back of the saturation for NTSC, expecially on reds. you should use your dev kit to test it in game and take a picture of the screen, (if your allowed), i know that will really pump up the values.
Great feedback Mop and Arsh. I went in and adjusted my saturation levels and mucked about. Now looking at the old one I can definitely see what you mean by muddy. I also made the bag have a vertical red stripe running down the middle, which I had actually planned to do and had forgotten about. It helps to seperate just like you were saying. Thanks again.
Looks sweet! I think KP is on the right track about the jacket folds though; they're the part of this piece that seems the weakest link. In general I think they could benefit from lower contrast across the whole jacket; you've got a lot of other high-contrast, high-frequency shapes happening over the whole figure and the painted folds are competing. The same might apply to the back of the knee folds.
well painted, however something about the colors hurts my eyes when I look at him... probably just needs some slight curve play, and maybe some saturation tweaks. Solid work man.
Cool. If I caught my kids talking to this guy I'd tell them to get back in the house. I mean- he's fairly dark, ya know? Was this your initial intent? Excellent execution, anyway. Er... ditto on the jacket wrinkles.
I'm not completly sold on the jacket yet. It looks like he's wearing a varsity jacket, so that's what I'm referencing. Having the shoulder seam in so far looks very odd, like he's wearing a little red jacket like Abu from Aladdin. I think bringing the seam to the end of the shoulder would help.
The fold in the elbow was bugging me. It might be possible for it to occur like that in real life (need to study up on folds myself), but I found it really distracting. Looking at it again, the one dark crease on the back of the knee is looking odd too. =\
The lighter part of the jacket it has some crazy bounce light going on. It's almost as if the jeans themselves are a lightsource casting that blue highlight on the sleeve of the jacket. If he were to raise his arm there would be a blue splotch there for no reason.
That nitpickyness aside, you've got a damn awesome character coming along.
That face is without doubt the best piece of texturing i've seen you do, poop.
i'm still not entirely sure about the folds in the back of the knee, and on the jacket, but the overal look is definately good
I'm calling the texture maps done. My next step is to get him rigged and into UT2k4, where I'll also be animating him with minty movements. Thanks for all the kind words, encouragements, and critiques while I was working through this project.
truly a work of art here Ben. I'm going to have to sit down and study this texture for a while, some really amazing stuff here. keep us up to date on your progress with getting him in -game. can't wait to see it,
I already told you on msn, but great work on that piece my friend I really think this is one of your best pieces, if not your best, texture is really top
Nice work on his overall look. I still think the name Mr. Mint is more fitting for an older person, not someone who looks like he's about to walk in to a rave and have himself a hazy night.
i think that's the best head texture i've seen from you as far as your publicly released stuff goes. you've come a long way and i see nothing but improvement. congratz on another finished piece
*sniff sniff* Thanks guys. It feels nice to have it done, and I appreciate all the feedback. Unfortunately I've come down with something and I feel miserable. Hopefully the fever breaks soon.
Something needs to be the official name of exactly what it feels like when you get it. So you can go the Doc and say I'm come down with Something, and they'd be like, okay take two of these a day and call me in a week. Or maybe it would be an over the counter drug called Something MAX. Anyway... yea, it's good stuff, liked your work for a while now, this is my fav.
Yay! this is good solid work Ben.
If I could crit anything I think you could have incorporated some candy stuff in his belt.
Like maybe one of these Belts, but with candy in it:
But that's just me critting for crits sake ;p
great work! Thumbs up seven up!
Awesome stuff ben, the face and hair look especially perfect, and the texturing on his bag has very convincing material and depth.
I was wondering what you did for his eyes...I see the highlight in a different section from the eyeball, so I'm guessing that you added a layer of polys on top, with some kind of alpha for it?

maybe a tad too red, but still works, seems you're having fun with that one
Face texture looks great, well done.
