so i allways here from all techy game devs that state changes in the renderer are the biggest bottleneck of todays graphics cards. and there for numberof texturesheets/ materials hsould be kept to the absolut minimum especialy for obejcts that will never occur sperate form each other ... for example a tower ( brick texture) and the roof ( some green cooper or what ever) they coudl be used in different places and levels so it makes sense to have those 2 texture sheets be speerate but this gun looks like it will allways be TOGETHER at all times so id recommand puutign all 3 uv sheets into one and allow maximum batchability
Are you modeling from a concept? This seems more wonky/cartoony than demonic. The upper teeth would go through the lower jaw if its mouth closed, and where exactly do the shots come out of? The eyes, nose, or mouth that is mostly blocked by teeth?
Id visual extrude out some barrel(s) to show were the projectiles will exit, and better integrate the skull. And yes, make it one material. I saw some of your other guns on cgtalk, and 7x256x256 is a little out of control. Something to think about for future work.
Thnx , the UV's are mostly metals and shapes, not much organic stuff. The skull's UV's are comletely lanned out . First texture the skull seperately, split the UV's so fit best and than do the same with the texture, maximum fit, no seams :O
It kinda does :P, aside from tubes and wiry bits though.
'nyways, an update, it doesn't show, but it's almost done.
I'm kinda afraid the tribals are using the best possible space to texture techy bits and possible some heightvariance on the gun, to make it looks, more like a gun, sorta.
Well, I'm calling it quits unless there's some horrid mistake I made wich is frowned upon .
I dunno, I find the center part with all the tribals a bit busy
Looks good dude, my only crit I guess would be that I would have made the eye sockets just a bit wider.
From the side view they look well sized and work really well, but from the front view, they look squished and almost sad?
Other than that, great job!

What if instead of the beveled silver you went with more of the riveted plate work. Sheet steel riveted on top of the brass. Since it's a life sucker, maybe more of a wind pattern instead of tribal.

Thnx
And I wanted to make it look sad, but onely subtle do emphasize the tortured feel and the wide open mouth. Also, it's not very pleasant having fingers prodruding your skull :P.
But yeah, the front looks fubar, I should try to make it deform a bit less some time, adding some polies probably would do it.

Also, as stated, it doesn't shoot, it sucks life. And yeah, I should work on getting more connectivity.
I also admitidly went for a more stylized skull as a normal mouthopening doesn't look "vaste" enough. Nore does a normal skull look like in torture.
