    Don't marry that psycho bitch!

[/ QUOTE ]I wish I'd married my wife sooner. She's given me so much more than any other person. Well, barring my parents. But wow, all I can say is I'm one lucky SOB. The butterfly effect is a mind-boggler.

Verm: Belief in yourself certainly helps. 10 years ago I'd just gotten my pc and was making quakeworld skins / map textures / maps / hud art / weapons / soundpak's and just trying to learn everything I could to get a gamejob.

I didn't know that I was just about to get my first fulltime inhouse job and win a few awards and I couldn't be sure that it would lead to where I am now but where I am is where I was working toward.

I spent many a night thinking I'd finally made it and being disappointed in the end, from the likes of Lee Perry at Ion Storm wanting to hire me but being overruled and choosing Lee Dotson on the grounds of him being local as well as talented , through to the then newly created Wireplay division of BT's online division trying to make me a fulltime editing machine for them and then downgrading their plans.

I certainly had my doubts, but belief has always kept me going. There's been many opportunities for me to quit on my goals since I got my first job too, so yeah belief REALLY counts and its never safe to give up or relax I doubt.

You're a talented enough guy Verm, the trick often is, figuring out what others perceive as your niche and exploting that enough to leverage what you want I think.

    Believe me yet?

    r.

    * Don't trust the short guy. He's not your friend.
    * Don't put in a pool. You'll regret it and you won't get your money back when you sell the house.
    * You're being a chump and a doormat letting her take those separate vacations (and paying for them to boot).

my advice for me 10 years ago i had just finished 6th grade. So my advice would have been to not cut off my then long as fuck hair. After i did that i had to wait years for girls to start running their fingers threw my hair again. and id tell myself that people make games. As this didn't come to my attention untill my senior year in HS... That only other thing would be to tell myself to ask out the hot chick at work when she broke up with her boyfriend so i wouldnt have to wait 3 years to get to date her.

    thats it for me.

-yes, people /can/ be such arseholes.
-just put in the fscking work.
-women love confidence...learn to fake it if you have to, but only bother with the girls you actually want.
-do all that reading on the beach, or any other place there are people.
-take a month off to actually understand the math, not just apply the formulae.
-waiting for a woman to aproach you means you'll be waiting most of the time.

    -edit-
-oh, and trust your gut when it comes to investing: take out that full student loan and buy all the Google and Haliburtun you can. And sell the latter in time.

Hello me from 10 years ago, here are a few helpful tips:

-Forget about Marie and focus more on Catherine...dillhole!
-You should hook-up with "that" girl from "that" party.
-After prom night, go easy on the drinking, your stomach, Rick's car and Karine will thank you.
-Don't stay up that late and sleep all day.
-Buy a mountain bike, RIGHT NOW!
-Go waste more time in school.
    -More drawing.
-Go easy on you know what...:P.
-Some people are backstabbers, so watch your back.
-Buy that vintage Marshall amp!!! i dont care how much it costs!

Haha, well said. I was 11 ten years ago, I'm sure I was well on top of things at that stage of my life. tongue.gif But as for life advice:

-Take a more serious interest in art earlier in school, god knows I couldn't care less about any other profession.

A few things to think about:

    - the need for balance in life. Too much or too little of anything will have a negative impact on you. One should strive for the right quantities of things in life.

    - (being a perfections) doing your best is rarely worth it. Doing good is usually good enough.

    - doing anything 100% is impossible. Going for 90% is hard enough.

hehehe, something else occurred to me..
"yes, drawing cars and car related stuff in art class is OK; cars are considered art by some, and can require just as much work to become that way as any masterpiece"

I recently learned about Locosts , and now I'm all gung-ho about the idea that, after a few other big projects are over with in the next year or two... I could actually make my own car.

Oh yeah... in several years you'll have a flat mate by the name of JI Styles. Take advantage of this situation. Or kill him and spin his brain in a centifuge to distill that sweet, sweet Talent essence. You know, whichever seems simpler.

    You're on.

If anything drives me the idea of doing this project, it's the idea of having seen someone else get national recognition for their work (the dude who was in the R&D article) and knowing that I can make something better than him (and safer... my god there is NO extra cabin framework on that ride... even more of a deathtrap than my vette with me at the wheel).

I'd probably say to my 15 year old self

Accept who and what I am (long story),

Look in to getting in to college as soon as I am legally out of school

Lose enough weight so I could see where I was aiming :P

Things look shit now but almost everything I was dreaming of doing back then will happen. Just takes time and a wee bit of luck smile.gif

Finally look out for my mum more- 10 years from now she won't be here so make the most of the 9 or so years that I've got.

To my 12 year old self:
-Things happen for a reason..no matter how much it sucks and hurts.
    -Give Dad more hugs
-Kiss Papa on the cheek...listen to the stories untold
-Its okay to be a loner...those girls turned out to be freaks anyway.
-8th grade..absolutely no "boyfriend"..stay away, just stay away.
-Keep reading those books...thats what charges your imagination.
-PLEASE Look out for the yellow pole...hurts like a mofo
-In six years, when you go to college..stay away from a 6'3 Italian..no matter what. He'll only break your heart..and you won't get over him for the next 2 years.
    -Trust God...moment by moment

I was 11 by that time. So my advice is pretty simple:
    -Go to the arcade less frequently(I'm sure I wouldn't listen smile.gif ).
-Start drawing, ask your father about it, he knows how it's done. And it's absolutely more fun than maths and science at which you are not good at all.
-Your bones were not placed correctly after you broke your nose. Get it fixed as soon as possible. (lol in fact I'm getting this fixed like next week. Yes, it was discovered pretty late frown.gif )

Stop worrying so much about the ladies...you're 14!
Don't waste time with majoring in Computer Science, Network Engineering, and Nursing!
Remember the thing that made you turn on that computer in the first place? Yeah...making games...you can do that...start now!
Learn to draw so you're not striving to learn anatomy/perspective 10 years from now in college.
Stay away from the "emo girls", they're fucked in the head!
Register poopinmymouth.com and turn it into a Dutch porn site. :]

all those drugs do not make your art better, just less comprehensible to the general public. hipsters are lame, stay away, even if the girls are all hot and want you to touch them where the babies come out.
