The top left of the roof overhang dosnt quite match the refrence. It might just be the perspective or something. Kudos on picking a supply vehicle. Theres no war without supplys.
The headlights in the reference pic are different: one is smaller than the other and it looks like they're lined up at the top of both. A minor faux pas if you ask me.
Looking really good. I love the bolts in the side-view mirror connector and the recessions in the metal bars connecting the mirror to the truck!
Looking good so far... if you're going for total accuracy, what 8FtSpider mentioned about the headlights is right, also the smaller light should be coming further in front of the bigger light.
The wingmirrors need to be longer, on the reference pic they come out a lot further than yours do.
Keep it up, i'm sure it'll be very impressive when finished
lookin sweet. not sure what your plans are for this baby's future but my guess is that if you leave it as clean, undented, and unbusted as it is in the ref pic you'll end up with a boring-looking model. would love to see 5 years worth of heavy duty usage shown up on it.
noritsune - my primery goal is to achive some quality render that will be realistic as possible
i wont make it clean like the pics but i dont think ill make it beated up either
ill see about that, im going with many details as posibble its gonna take years to UV all that
Zergxes - hehe, damn i miss the transformers
malcolm - ill post wires when im done with modeling, i just keep going back and change things, so ill post when its gonnabe final
As beautiful as those tires are, I bet they weren't that hard to do. My guess would be one group of treads were rotate/copied around the tire as many times as the tire could be divided by without remainder (that's how I would try to go about it).
Looking great! Can't wait to see the finished product.

thanx man, over all i think its like a month of work (i had some other parts done and then merged)
BigL
thank you, yea here it comes
TorQue[MoD]
thanx, heh nah its not dast i had some parts done before and i merged them
DeathByChris
i modeled it flat ( the thread, like a track) then extrude the bumps, then i bend it on 360, and then when when inward towered the conter with the edges
Ryno
its coming! =P
McIlroy
it will take me bjijilion years to do that
let me get thru the UV first, i dont thin mmmy pc is powerful enough to handle it either lol
of course he's going to model the trailer that it's on, and after that, a truck to haul the trailer. the kicker is that he will also then model a third, even more enormous truck that will cart the other two trucks on its back, like some sort strange leviathan mother bearing its children.
or maybe not. a pleasure watching this model proceed, lonewolf
This is so great that you most definitely need to fix those jaggy shadows and make it just perfect. To me it looks like you got DMap shadows with low resolution so cranking up filter/blur or increasing resolution would take care of that - or switch to raytrace.

u mean mud flaps hehe, yea lots of parts are mirrored to save some time and workflow (my pc isnt very fast )
i making new render now
fogmann
thank you, problem is with high res shadow it takes like a whole day to render
i started a new render yesterday and i think its still rendering now (or its stuck lol i can view max =\ )
zbrushing something that large would be silly, you might as well use procedural maps and greyscale decals as a fine-detail bumpmap on the high-poly, and bake that down... saves having to make hugely dense meshes and faff around for hours in zbrush. set up some nice dent and noise procedurals in the bump slot, render it all to texture, bam instant lovely detailed normal maps!
how do you modellers get smoothed sharp edges? do you chamfer the sharp edges by 0 amount before you meshsmooth the whole thing? and how do you automatically select all sharp edges so you can do that?
"no, that gives crappy looking edges. "
well its difficult to tell from what you said as "smoothed sharp" is a bit of a contraditcion:P
but i think you probably mean chamfered edges, definatly chamfer twice befor meshsmooth for good effect.
That's some nice texture work. AND! you made that perfect render, so I must thank you for that. How many megapixels of texture do you think you'll need to cover the whole truck with maps that have this level of detail? I can't wait to see more.

thanx dudes
hmm i donno about the headlight part i think its ok
the roof needs to be redone yea
Looking really good. I love the bolts in the side-view mirror connector and the recessions in the metal bars connecting the mirror to the truck!

Right on! how much time did you put on it so far? i wouldve probably quit my job to be able to finish it lol. Keep it up.

Whats that floating wheel doing on the other side btw?
its the spare, its sitting on the deck
the other side of the truck is diffrent
lots of details on the other side
I've noticed the OshKosh trucks before and contemplated modeling one myself, but never got arround to it.
or maybe not. a pleasure watching this model proceed, lonewolf
heres some more wip
The text on the uhm... flaps... by the wheels... (what the hell are those called anyway?) is mirrored. Looks weird
I concur with the drop the ortho-render calls.
This model needs beauty-renders that shows the scale of this monstrosity, wide angle FTW.
u mean mud flaps hehe, yea lots of parts are mirrored to save some time and workflow (my pc isnt very fast )

ill post it here when and IF it finishs
thanx again guys
the other one crashed but i think this one ok?
is it?
no sweet as man, ive enjoyed watching this, maybe add a simple interior or use a double sided material!
ill model the interior too and add more details
im not done yet =D
lol
heres the rear view
Are we going to see a low poly normal-mapped version of this truck in the future?
Great stuff.
Are you going to be adding surface detail to it aswell? You could zbrush it with some nice alpha brushes.
really nice work Lonewolf, it's looking great!
tell the meshsmooth/tubosmooth modifier to smooth by smooth group

no, that gives crappy looking edges.
Damn fine truck though. Looking very real.

thanx man, yea it had to come sooner or later
SHEPEIRO
yea i actualy like it small round and peachy too =O
Phobos
yea i got to use some bump maps
ViPr
i just put another loop closer to the edge so it will be more sharp
Weiser_Cain
roger!
Vailias
yea i know i use alot of mirroring so i wont kill my pc, wich already dead, cant keep working, must upgrade soon
dejawolf
ask him when will i win the lotorry
i must get that enzo!
well couldnt wait to finish the model, had to try some textures
heres the wheel
need to add more prints on the tire
thanx again
I would let some more rubber/black shine trough on the tire. it almost looks like concrete now or sprayed in silver paint
