Thanks guys! I'll touch up the renders a bit today and replace the images. Kinda lost the critical eye after a long long night yesterday.
Mop: I guess I just like black and white images sometimes a bit better then colored ones I might do that one in color though and call it the main piece, as I still like that render the best compositionally. Anyway. I'll update the renders later today.
Man, that is seriously some top notch work. He's a very believable character, especially in the face. He reminds me a bit of Abe Sapien from Hellboy, crossbred with Ursula from The Little Mermaid. So very awesome, my friend.
I would render off a z-depth pass so you can haze out the distant objects. I think it will look better than the DOF, which is okay in small doses, but seems to be getting a bit cliche on non-closeup renders.
This looks fantastic. The creature came out very nice overall, but i agree with the background not giving it justice. An even more dynamic pose (such as him emerging from the murky depths) with caustics and light beams and bubbles to emphasize movement would be great. Still this came out VERY nice

Edit: new ones are up.
The shot of his head is my new desktop
Top quality work! Congrats!
Good stuff.
the final render does look like he is flying by a moon instead of swimming.
