Mine's my main guitar (Ibanez RG550), with an animated cut to the polycount Dominance War smiley.
I should probably put it back to the static image now that's over...
how about you, hawken? what's up with your CRAZY 3D PIXELS?? i know it's a pixel-y self portrait, though. you don't need be 'splaining that part. what's the deal with the row of little icons above the head?
THE FAMOUS ASTROMAN:
mine is a smaller version of that sig i used on the old forums, which in turn used to be basically my very first site splash graphic. it's one of the oldest drawings i have that's still "in use"--i drew it near the end of a school day my senior year of high school and scanned it, right there in the lab. if i dig around enough, i bet i could even find the original drawing on paper. talk about a collector's item. the original image:
so for... 6 years or so now? Astroman has been my avatar, and a sort of alter ego identification. i don't know if i could ever go with a different avatar on polycount
Mine is the text "Kill your parents!!!" (capitalization may differ) converted into Hex using the ASCII values. That's why I hope your subconsious knows neither hexadecimal nor ASCII.
Mine is from a concept level I made for a pitch. Pirate Poker, it was. Arrrrgh. Lighting was generic. Only spent about 20 min on it. Some things aren't lit well (like the lights :P ).

I like Grim Fandango - I like his attitude and general hate for everything.
On MSN I use a set of 5:
Tak (from the Power of JuJu) - I love the style
Sid (model of the character from ice-age) I finished it!
Some African Penguins - I <3er penguins- they rock
The depressed robot from hitchhikers - again I like his personality
and meh, a picture of meh
I was up late one night, couldnt sleep so i decided to get stoned, play with my camera and put on this goofy looking winter cap i bought in a store Amsterdam which sold Swedish imports
Mine was actually a flip-book animation I had done in adobe illustrator, for my Design with illustrator class I had back in october. As far as what the hell is going on in it? It's something shooting down a guys throat to then open up to a stage that had can-can dancing robots, it should be longer though, because my original plan was to make it so that it keeps zooming out to see that that the dancing robots are on a television screen which is being watched by the guy who they're dancing inside. I didn't go that far, because I was already pushing the deadline for it, and I was totally burnt out after doing all the work that week had to offer.
Wow, now I wish I had soemthing cool and "out there" for my avatar. I suppose my avatar is proof that I have been drawing the exact same thing for the past 4 or 5 years
[edit]
My avatar was originally done for a giant "cool" animated sig, back when I first started posting on Polycount. I wanted everyone to see how serious I was by my badass sig.
Funny picture of a sign in a zoo warning visitors to avoid getting splattered with hippo shit... the 'splatterzone' kind of represents the usual shit I splatter this board with
Mine's a chop-up of a photo of my vette leavin the mile-long tunnel at Zion National Park, from our drive out to Lake Powell this last summer for a family reunion.
Full photo's here: http://studioflaagan.com/reunion/vettedrive/zion2.jpg
Arnie from a Japanese ad - for a caffeine/vitamin drink I think. I just loved what they did with his make-up, he looks totally mental. Which is of course why it suits me so much..Just ask my kids.
I bought a tablet PC and wanted to test it for small pixel work, and painted a series of 80x80 avatars. I'd seen Per make some small smileys that I thought were awesome, and I was tired of using and seeing avatars taken from movies or comercials, I wanted one I created, so I painted this one. Not much to it, it was just what I thought of at the time.
KDR you are a complete asshole. And though i'm not a shining example of happiness myself, at least I have a damned heart.
Snemmy, keep your chin up. I was in the same boat, but things turned out better. Focus on yourself. Even if you lack direction now, or feel like you are falling short, it most likely just means you hav'nt found your niche. When you do, you'll completely blow it out of the water, and appreciate it more than most.
mine is just an image of Danny Phantom, a cartoon on Nickelodeon from the creator of the Fairly OddParents about a 14year old boy who gained ghost powers through an accident in his ghost hunting parents lab.
My tag used to be "KillerHummingbird" years ago. On another forum there was a "Matrix Avatar" contest with the second matrix was comming out. I decided to replace neo with a humming bird. I've changed my name since, but have been too lazy to make a new avatar.
i was experimenting with stop-motion photography. i had recently purchased the nine inch nails: closure video set. i got inspired by the Closer music video. the lyrics, "help me" are typed over and over and over again at a frantic pace. actually, not a frantic pace at all but meh.
I wanted to put an avatar on for my 1 year of being a member here, but I couldn't think of anything interesting so I google imaged "scarry/angry/evil cat" and eventually found this lovely little kitty.
exciting I know
=^..^=
... and Mr Warner... don't you get tired of being an X-man? hehe Seriously dude, fix it!! =P
I tend to put up the logo of what ever company I work for. My current job is over, nd aI amlooking, as I never had the time to change it from the previous Job. The one that shows was from the job that went from Nov. '03 to Dec '05 at Castaway Entertainment L.L.C. I'll think of something to post soon.

Still don't have one, which says a lot about me. I don't run a desktop theme or picture and I use my real name for online games.

Because you're booooring!
Just kidding ... I had a plain black desktop background with the default Windows grey theme for a good few years.
