I figured if I don't post this it'll never happen. Great excuse to do some long over due personal work.

Concept is not fit to post yet but I busted this out in Zbrush after my first attempt. If I have time he'll be riding some sort of beast (not likely)

Yes! Seriously, Eddie was the reason I got into art. I learned drawing by copying Eddie from the album covers as a kid and then just drawing 100's of Eddies during class in school until I could draw him from every angle without reference.

That was a long time ago, Jeez i'm getting old.

Now I've done it, I didn't read the story and made him fantasy based. So back to square one, need to dress him up in some alien gear.

I'd like to see a more original weapon, though. Maybe some sort of cyber-ballistea that he hauls around behind him, hence his huge muscles.

I know a laser sword is lame I was just trying to come up with something that would take 20 minutes max. Don't have too much time to spend on this so a ballista might be pushing it.

i like how he's all boxy man, is there a reason other than style you're doing that to your mesh?

Yeah, I usually find as I'm working in Sub-D's I loose some definition from my low res cage. To fix that I like to just chamfer the whole mesh once in max instead of just subdividing in Zbrush.

It creates some pretty crazy geo but since I'm not counting on using my high res mesh for anything but normals it's usually ok.

The nice thing about it is you can control how agressive you want your shapes to be by playing around with the chamfer amount.

haha nice trick okkun... mesh looks very nice so far too. loads of character.

(i've actually used the chamfer trick before, works very well for making high-poly geometric crystals)

okkun, I believe there is a plugin for zbrush that tries to more accurately keep the original cage shape when subdividing, I'll try and find the name

here, its SmartDiv. I haven't tested it yet but it seems useful:

Yeah, that zscript works like a charm for small boxes and for the overall proportion thing. Also, if you unselect SMT button near the divide button is more or less what this script does.

I'm digging the overlapping plate motiff. I think you could even push it further with the bits on his wrist. Maybe really play with the rythm of his body by altering which side they lie on. Great work on the high poly as well.

I agree with poop... try dumping all the shoulder/wrist armor on one arm while leaving the other free to chop people up. The Zbrush'd head owns me

poop, so are you saying what aegix is to just move it to the other arm or actually alternating the plates? I think that could be cool too but I'd have to do some sketching

I also think that one arm should have all the armour, or at least you should give it a quick shot just to see how it looks. It makes me think of a fighter who would attack with one arm and defend blows with the other, so all the armour would be on the defense arm, plus the attack arm needs to be nice and light

that said I think you're doing a friggin sweet job of it

i think that works better from a logical standpoint, however he needs something to balance him out now - it'd probably be fine if he had a stupidly huge weapon in his un-armoured hand... you could also try adding a big bag, pouch or something around his waist on that side to balance it out a little.

Maybe a wrapped, upper section of cape that covers and enhances the right shoulder and part of the arm. It could drape down to the ground giving him a regal, leadership appearance. You could also put an insignia or seal of authority on it.

I'll think of something. I'd rather not do a weapon since I was thinking of having him hold a head with accompanying spine.

I might flip the scarf thing and make it shorter and wider to balance things out, maybe put some symbols on it to make him look official.

Wow! That is awesome.
Okkun I really like how your character is. He looks seriously angry and tough, but he may need some kind of weapon to make him appear more dangerous. Perhaps the a head/skull and spine could be some sort of magical weapon.

This is excellent. I second the idea of a cape or cloak, but as to a weapon, he doens't needto be holding it, Just put some sort of side arm in a holster on his waist. he's not a rifleman, but a general. head and spine sounds cool. Now you just have to scout out enemy territory and poach a concept from them for the head and spine. :-)
