theres something about the zbrushed face I dont like... quality wise its fantastic but his expression doesnt look evil, it looks like he was smiling and was kicked in the nutz... and thats his expression going from one to the other. Id say look up some pictures of http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000197/ he's always had an evil ass smile.
alpha textures, i didn't really bother detailing it too much in the concept, but its supposed to be a bunch of souls swirling around the top of the staff, the idea behind it is he has necromantic powers, he would walk onto the battlefield, plunge the staff into the ground and all the fallen dead warriors around him would rise up and fight for him while he has control of their souls. I have a whole bunch of background stuff for this guy written down, i'll put it up eventually.
Hot as always mr rockstar! One thing I miss and got lost from concept to model in my oppinion is his enourmous weight and strength. Now he looks more like an avarage fighter in a heavy suit. Anyway, nice work, as always...
Man thats some wicked stuf right there. Anychance of a breakdown of how you handled some of those details such as the bottom of the cloak and some of the hard edged details on the armour. Was it all done in zbrush?
looks really sweet dude! few crits, one is that the bottom of the cape looks like a torn up trash bag. like its plastic and not cloth. another is that in your concept the chest plate is not directly in the center, obviously you changed it, but i thought the asymmetery was an interesting design choice. and last is that in the concept the brest plate seems very well integrated into the armor like puzzle pieces that all fit together and in the model it looks like it was just thrown on top, not like its edges are meshing into the shoulder pads or the armor undernieth.

thanks guys, ok yeah the bottom of the cape does look like ripped up plastic, but those pieces won't be all modeled out anyway, so i'm thinking the cape will get alot of alpha treatment in the end.
as for the chestplate, it was supposed to be in the middle, its the face on it thats supposed to be asymmetrical.
yeah everything was done with zbrush, well a combination of max and zbrush, i usually just make a very simple base mesh with edgeloops that follow the general direction i want my details to go and then i throw that into zbrush and do the majority of the work in there.

From what you currently have it looks like he can't move his arms very much.

ok so heres the arm, should have the rest of this guy modeled up in the next couple of days, need to hurry this up to have enough time for texturing and polish.
and yeah he's not a very mobile general, he lets his minions do most of the fighting, i would imagine him being more of a big bulky dude lumbering through the battlefield crushing skulls as his minions swarm all over killing everything in sight.
You really cant argue with how cool the whole 'tubes interpenetrating into flesh' thang looks, but I cant help but feel compelled to yank one of them there cables and seemingly easily rip it free through the skin :-) Seems like a weakness, heh. Superbly executed of course! You really are the man when it comes to complex intertwining geo.
A crit: seeing that fat bicep vein just stop when it meets the shoulder there instead of flowing into it a little is nagging away at me!

i agree with bobo on the smile.
so after much soul searching i decided to take the smile out, it looked stupid when i roughed out the whole model, looked dumb on it as a whole.
blocked out the proportions for the dude, going to start building pieces now.
you get a 1024x102 for each map.
1024x1024 diffuse, 1024x1024 normal, 1024x1024 spec, etc...

It's 1024 x 1024 PIXELS per map type. You can have 4 x 512x512 diffuse for example, and then 4 normal maps, 4 spec etc.
I'm likely to use 3 x 512 x 512 and 4 x 256 x 256 for example.
