Well, I do not see why a mesh with triangles could not be imported into zbrush to make normal maps. It is not the best way, but for sure you can do it.
This is going to look awesome. The raw power of polys and paints for sure are going to shine on this one.
Good luck with it man!
1 tri in zbrush can cause a really irritating pinching spot, a lot of tris can be a nightmare. It's possible to go with tris, but its unpleasant. Thats why most folks subscribe to the belief that you want to have a well quaded mesh to zbrush.
looking cool bobo, definetly digging the head so far, I can already almost picture the body made to bobo results.
im going to hijack this thread real quick for a tip.
i use to hate areas on meshes in zbrush, that were tris, or places where 5 or more edges came together, but i found a fancy little trick to help these areas. just to test it you can make a mesh with a tri, not a million of them but one or two, also make some 5 and 6 edge intersections, these all cause the pinching effect when smoothed. now up the divisions and smooth the crap out of it untill you start to notice areas of pinching. now (this is ironic) whip out the PINCH brush and make the center of the brunsh line up exactly over the pincy part, now hold alt and un-pinch that sucker!! it will start to spread the very dense area out, keep going, streach it way out, then hit it again with the smooth brush, and BAM!! pinch-no-more!! really one of the most helpful little things i have found.
thread is now unjacked. let bobo bathe in his limelight once again.
Looks great so far Bobo and it's good to hear that you stick to your traditional texturing, though I'd like to see what you can do with some normal mapping sometime
Just so you all know.

This gauntlet has been thrown down for a while, but I thought I would make it offical.
I haven't had much time to work on this but I was able to squeeze in a couple hours last night. Just blocking in shapes and fleshing out his proportions at the moment:
Hes just at 2,500 polygons right now. Plenty of polygons to detail him out and make his sword.
My goal is to have the modeled completed and UV'd by the weekend.
Love the head, love how the armor off sets the big arm. It just feels like he needs huge talons comming outa that big hand though. Could look at the head model forever, awesome job so far Bobo.
Loving this model. The head is fantastic. Can't wait to see it finished up. Feet still leave some to be desired, though I am sure they are not complete.
Have you considered toying with the idea of weaker arms that are attached to its wings, (in place of the humanoid arms) so that it almost appears to have no arms at all? It might help preserve a more bat-like look.
Then, again, the arms do give it the human quality that would be more befitting of a general.
Amazing! Your stuff is really what got me interested in gameart to begin with, so I'm grateful for a chance to watch you work.
I try not to post without offering some sort of constructive feedback, but you're making it tough. The feet look weak compared to the rest of the model though I'm sure you're not done with them yet. Are the arms, head, and torso all separate pieces? I've always tried to avoid doing that because I have to spend so much time welding and correcting polyflow afterwards.
Great stuff BoBo, I think Ghost_Rider might have the upperhand at this stage. But I have faith in you to lead us Polycounters to victory.
I know its still early stages of the model, but as Zcubed mentioned the feet are looking a little weak. Maybe its just me but they dont look like are really able to support his weight, especially with the huge wings on his back.
Everything else looks great and can't wait to see what you do with the other half of your poly budget.
that sucks you wont finish! this model was gonna be so so so nice textured too! i guess that is the down fall of being an art director. not enough time.

And that's an interesting tip, Arsh. Seems too simple to be true.
