Do you think you can swing some mint-flavored? It might not be the right season, but perhaps you can convince them that poopinmymouth is worth it. And green & black oreos would just be sooooo perfect for this.
Ok I've heard from a representative of CGchat. They've made me a counteroffer. The Oreos for free if we keep Poopinmymouth. So I guess he's on our side.
Just doing a little rough scribbling. I'm going to make a bat like alien character but also work in some middle eastern motifs along with my dragon symbiot series I have on my website.
yeah I suppose, but doesnt 'its alien' pretty much cover that.. alien medieval, with nano-tech! etc. as long as theres a gun or electro sword in there it works for me
yup he's an alien. I mentioned my dragon series just to give a visual as to the direction I'm heading. He's going to be very asymmetrical with a large mutated arm. The orbs that are imbedded are the symbiots. Think of them as ticks but beneficial. Im still roughing in everything. He will have some high-tech things. Im really trying to avoid going the Unreal/Doom/Quake route. I also want to give it a bit of culture there for Im mixing in a little bit of updated historical elements.
Really good stuff here! That sword really fits the character. What about making him with more than one head? Two heads or maybe three ala Hydra would kill more cgchat generals faster!
Keep it up!
EDIT: I had an idea for the mutated arm... what about a crab claw? A very big one could look cool
I love the concepts Bobo. I was wondering how many folks were going to go the alien route. I think that's the direction to head to get away from the doom3/quake/unreal look.
I trust you to make it look non-medieval/fantasy in the final concepts.
Cool, but not really hightech in any way. Will be interesting to see how you will make the model look like something from 1000 years in the future. Are those wings functional, or are they just there to give a more varied profile and a little extra mass?

Ah, that where the tech is coming into the picture, missed it first.
Really looking forward to seeing what you end up with. I've always been impressed by your pure talent and I trust you will put it to good use for this contest
Bobo , man, as usual impressive i really hope u keep going i wont lick ur shoes and say ur mighty god or crap i just want to say for you to give ur best as usual
i would say for you to go for something original, but nowdays people like more huge armor and loads of details :P oh well, gotta surrender to them ;D
this is a whole lot of knob gobbling for not a whole lot of posted material c'mon Bobo, you know the CGC kids are watching as intently as we are, so where are the real goods?!
Thanks guys. I've done some additional exploration sketches but I don't have access to my scanner at the moment so Ill post them tomorrow. In the meantime I've started in on the model:
As promised here are the sketches I did before locking in on what I'm doing with him:
And here are some details of his gear. I'll probably do a few more studies before setting anything to poly form:
Makkon: I actually prefer not to follow a model sheet. It feels too restrictive besides I rarely work in any window other than the perspective window. A good 3/4 view concept with some thumbnail detail shots tend to work best for me. With a 3/4 view you pretty much see the front and the side of a character giving you all the proportions you really need. Also I tend to do my own conceptual work so I can usually feel in the gaps as I go.
Jhotun: Im trying to be realistic with the amount of free time I have (we are wrapping up Titan Quest at work) so Im going to stick to what Im best at for this one. No normal map just polygons and paint.

But bobo can just make up some compleing story of a time traveling dragon in no time...
Nice work so far, keep it up! And finish him!
What is it about the future that makes half the universe's population have a single large mutated arm?

Well, you know how fads can be...soon, all of the future folk and aliens will be making fun of the ones with large mutated arms and call them losers.
Keep it up!
