Pokemon, again?

Yes, pokemon again. Once again I get the perfect opportunity to model a shitload of little creatures to be used in a pokemon mod for hl2.

Modeled it in an hour and a half and finished it off today, took maybe 3 hours total, im slow . C&C appreciated.

if this is going to be animated (which i assume it will be) it could use a lot more polygons, for detail and deformation, its hl2 so i think at least 1500 polygons minimum per pokemon would be good, right? Its a great likeness though, instantly recognizeable.

Well I was going to go higher yes, but the leaders later decided they wanted this to be a free roaming pokemon game, meaning there could be herds of these thing on the screen at once, less polys, more pokemon. And as for animation, yes, but since he is a 4 leged creature he probally wont need any more polys for deformation.

I think you should just make a color map that is modulated in a shader in cartoon style way. In other words, don't shade the texture and write a shader for that.

Secondly, it sounds like your 'leaders' are a bunch of tools who don't know what they're talking about.

A shader would be awesome imo, and would save me a hell of alot of work. But thats up to them, im just in it for the modeling practice :P.

what we mean is that since it is a cartoony style ( and very well achieved - well done ) but a shader is what makes it look good..hey...its a cartoon after all...

Hehe, dunno when he will be done, we are starting off with basics and going up ^_^.



Rageunleashed helped me out alot on this update, used some lizard photos and such and got him some dull spots and stuff. Also gave him alot more detail, rounded his head a bit more, modeled the toes, rounded the fins, stuff like that, its at 864 tris now.

yeha model looks better now, but the patering on the texture is too blotchy, does not really come off as skin paterns, perhaps more work on that part, i like the lil dude tho
