Wow...I've been sooooo lazy in the art aspect of things lately...I havent really done anything big since my Predator back in April/May!!

Well I'm organizing a mod for BF2 known as Brace for Impact. I'm not really doing a recuiting message here yet (However I DO need a staff. So far it's just about 3 people including myself, So I am DEFINATELY looking for recuits smile.gif ), I'm mostly just pimping what I have so far, so I can show I have been doing stuff, and to maybe get people interested. I'm pimping 3 things for two factions...A Soldier, fighter, and dropship for an alien and human team. I'm really tired (been working ALL week and spent all morning outside doing yardwork) so enough talk, here's the renders

humans

and the aliens

And yea, this is definately more of a pimp, I know you really can't crit my models from these renders. If you still see something you don't like, go ahead and tell me, but these are more of eye candy renders, so smile.gif

Oh and BTW, I recently just figured out and understood smoothing groups (I know...that's SOOO sad I've been modeling for like 5 or 6 years and im just now figuring that out :\) So I realize I might not have done the *best* in certain areas...I kept the human stuff sorta flat and sharp because, well I thought it would look best that way...if you think this is wrong PLEASE tell me, I really need to know if im "doing it right" thankx smile.gif

    Definately wink.gif

my photoshop keeps freezing so i never have a chance to make textures, though im in the process of fixing that frown.gif...even so, that's a loooot to texture being only one person, so progress is going to come slow

The cockpit could probably use a lot more polies, after all it'll be in view and not moving much most of the time.

Ok well, I didnt want to make a new thread on this, so i just thought I would bump this thread. With the help if n30g3n3s1s (YOU ROCK) I've finally taken on animation and I think i fully understand it laugh.gif...I know I should have learned this a LONG time ago, I'm kicking myself for it now because it is pretty easy...But I'm just really excited that I finally learned how, and wanted to show you my progress so far...Once I get him fully rigged I'll make a couple renders to pimp, but I just wanted to pimp this early shot real quick smile.gif

You may have known this, or hate to have it pointed out..the base of your alien looks alot like the alien from galaxyquest.. He looks awesome though!

The models are all decently built, but as dekard pointed out, all your models aren't that original.

    Good haul Aaron,
Everything looks good, there's a consistant style, the aliens/humans units have a clear theme. Overall this has a real video game look, like what one would expect to see. Though you could go more artsy-fartsy, it's good that you understand that look.

Glancing over everything, the two things that stand out are:
From the front, the human's waist armor is too tight on his body, and his thighs are skinny. Though you could be using some weird lighting, smoothing groups or edge loops that are tricking me. The alien's ankle armor and feet look small. I'd beef up his wrists a too.

But mainly, UVs, textures then rendered in game! Also, I expect there will be a set of human/aliens weapons coming soon?

Thankx for what all your saying, really appreciate the feedback smile.gif

Dekard: Yea I did that on purpose, my reasoning is this. BF2 has the iraqi soldier having the face of that famous russian actor (forgot his name). I thought it was a pretty cool idea and it definately looked good...So thinking in the same sense, I thought it would be cool to feature his face like they did, and it made sense because he was a warrior in galaxy quest...i just thought it was cool...but yea I did it on purpose

Cep: Thankx bro, glad you like them laugh.gif. However, I think its very unfair to assume ALL of my models are not original becuase one of SIX has the FACE of an alien from a movie...kind of a horrible assumption, but that's ok

Cholden: Thankx for the indepth feedback laugh.gif...I'm glad you can see a constant theme in everything, that's something i was DEFINATELY trying to go for...I really want to get into the gaming business, so what your saying is very encouraging
About the soldier, you *may* be right, heres a render for you to judge
    http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a32/SpartnII/175ff7b5.jpg
I considered on the bottom of the chest plate, the light gray armor (I got the colors inverted, its SUPPOSE to be the dark gray) to be like a thick rubber substance that would bend a bit to the users movements...it would still protect him yet be flexible, but maybe your right
As for textures and getting in game...definately working on that...photoshop is giving me a real bitch of a time, and i can't make anything in it...so unless i get some people to help me now, im not sure when ill be able to pump out skins :\...and as you can see im learning animation so hopefully some type of ingame shots will be available
And as for weapons...yes im definately going to work on that smile.gif...I'm wanting to get an equal amount of stuff ready to be ported into whatever game i decide on (BF2 is giving us a LOT of trouble) but yea, expect some soon smile.gif

Updating my renders smile.gif...I had a really busy day, but managed to rig his left arm and get a new render laugh.giflaugh.giflaugh.gif

I would love to make them dance laugh.gif...I still have a lot to learn in this aspect though, I really doubt i posess enough knowledge to truly animate (like for instance I believe my thumb bone is turned the wrong way, but oh well)

Hopefully this evening I can fix my photoshop problem, ill work on some unwraps, and *maybe* get a skin popped out on saturday...next weekend by the latest smile.gif

Once again I DO NEED A TEAM...so if you like what you see, messgae me wink.gif...I'm not a slacker laugh.gif...I plan on posting some in depth information here soon

As soon as I rig something, I always entertain myself by loading up some of the stock animations that came with max 7.

    never ceases to amuse me.

Good luck animating. I've learned how to rig and pose and all that, but my animation skills are horrible.
