3DS Max 6 crashes when I apply normal map shader

I can create the material but once I apply it to an object it crashes.

Latest nvidia drivers. My card is a 4600.
DirectX 9.0c
3DS Max6 sp1

I've been trying to use Ben Cloward's normal map shaders and his tutorials.


Anyone know what the problem is?
