Sounds like 3ds max users have nothing to complain about! (Sucks for Maya, XSI, Wings, Silo users though).

snowfly: from reading that article. it makes me want to stick with XP even more. At least until all the hacks that get rid of half the crap in there. I don't want my OS being able to access my motherboard bios. I want to be able to use openGL. I hope Alias, Softimage and all the other developers give microsoft hell for this openGL crap. Unlike Max, both XSI and Maya are multiple OS programs. Forcing them to switch to a directx based graphical back-end for windows machines while keeping opengl for linux and mac versions isn't really the most efficient route.
As for every window being a 3d texture... wow can we say a massive waste of resources? nothing wrong with a traditional 2d based desktop. Then there's the shutting down all non-required resources when gaming... may sound nice, but what if you're wanting to leave programs like msn or irc running in the background while you game? from what I can tell those would get shutoff just to give you a 0.5 fps boost.

Guess Ati's happy now that they don't have to maintain their awful OGL support at all.
If you ask me that's just MS trying to make programs harder to port between Linux and Windows. Well, unless you're using SDL, that is! SDL is Freedom!

edit: a funny thought popped into my head when reading about the copy protection/DRM in Vista - "There goes the game developer community!"
