i need a gradient tool that will let me pick points on a grid and assign colors to it, then do gradient blends between then on the x and y.

sort of like the gradient layer tool in PS, but on steroids...

i considered trying to use that and set up layer masks for each row, and wow... decided to ask if there is something out there smile.gif

No idea about a plugin like that, but I guess you could always try using vertex colours on a grid in Max if nothing else worked... it blends in a gradiented fashion, right? Then bake out the vertex colours to a flat image... I dunno, I'm just making stuff up.

If you have access to illustrator you could create a gradient mesh. Take a normal square object, divide it into a grid using the mesh tool. Then assign fill colors to each point. By moving points around you can control how the gradients blend.
