For those that missed Mike Brown at the GDC heres a movie of da man modelling a spawn like demon in SensAble claytools using a Phantom Omni force feedback sculpting tool.

Cool video. The end result looks like it suffers a little from the blobby "quick-zbrush" look, but for under 10 minutes worth of sculpting it's very impressive.

How much does this stuff all cost? I had a hunt around but couldn't find any pricing info. My 3D lecturer at university here is very interested in all this haptic stuff, I'd like to gather some info to fire his way - it'd be very cool if we could have one of these available for our art labs next year.

Now available, ClayTools 1.0 is compatible with 3ds max Versions 6 and 7, and is priced at $2795. Customers who already own the Phantom Omni can purchase ClayTools for $1995. -CEH

It costs about 2 and a half thou... but unlike Z it takes like ten minutes to learn, and you can sculpt right away. The cool thing is the tool is touch forcefeedback and you can use that in max and maya and rhino. You can touch models and its so robust it will just hover there if you leave the tool on the character head, for example.
Anyway, I like it cause I can just dick around in it by merging old models in as .obj files and then resculpting them.

This sounds like something I'd really like to get into. I don't suppose theres any chance of a port to Maya some time in the future...

The hardware, software and plugins for max, maya and rhino are all the one price. I will be doing some tutorial videos for this tool hopefully soon.

I messed with it at work and think it's cool as shit! The sensation of punching through an object's surface is really freaky. I'm afraid that if I got it, I'd spend much more time doodling just to feel the neat feedback from the pen, that I'd never actually sculpt anything.
