Holy cow. Those are some incredible characters you've created there. Not going to critique though, as it's a released title. My favorite has to be "dark rayne". Very awesome shit.
awesome. Dark rayne is my favorate, closely followed by cowgirl rayne. Ya really cranked out those variations at the end. Great job man, I learned alot from you while at TRI.
Ah, I've been waiting for you to post ur BR2 stuff
Geez that's some pretty amazing work, busy man.
All the Rayne variations and Ferril, very hot stuff, loving the dingey style of the U Punks/Xerx and the 'ninja' females are pretty funky .
Z Punks look like a buncha MM wannabes
For some reason I can't figure out what's going on with the bottom left zookeeper?
Great Work, You've just contributed to selling the game to me even more.
Rayne's pose for BR2 is much better than the supermodel pose from BR1. Shoulders back, legs wide, very aggressive.
The Dhampirs have very nice uniforms. They are much better dressed than the usual evil army. I'd sign up with them.
It's odd how Ferrill has high heels even though she doesn't seem to be wearing anything.
Does the female ninja have barbed wire wrapped around one leg?
I can't see the Mansion Fountain very well. What is it?
RazorBladder : That zookeeper is encased in a roach egg. Roach golems spawned from those. I did those too, but I don't have an easy way to show the roach golems off.
SjetvsKerrigan : Those are actually Ferril's feet. She can morph her hands and feet. You can see her two clawed toes at the tip of her foot if you look closely.
Yeah, the ninja's have barbed wire all over them.
It's an angel in cuffs with a serpant wrappend around her. I should make a better render of it.
Thanks again you guys. Keep the questions coming if you have them.
Thanks Jeffro / EQ. DarkRayne is a fan favorite so far. The publishers loves her so much that they're thinking about making her into her own character. She's going to have an issue devoted to her in the BloodRayne comic.
Cowgirl Rayne's initial design came from Juan after he saw pornstar Tawny Roberts sport a very sexy cowboy hat and tube top. He layed down the basic mesh for the clothes and I went in, finished the design and finalised the mesh. Then that's when I threw out my back and had to go to the hospital, so Bryan had to finish off the texture.
Stuff looks good, for some reason my favorite model is the first Rayne. You should post progress shots of the pre-prototype, prototype and final Rayne next to each other. The pre-prototype one if FULGY!

hehehe wow the first one has that grey skin tone that alot of beginner skinners end up getting. wicked improvement who did the first one?

It was a collab between the game designer and art director of BR1. Yeah, I said the game designer and art director. Yeah, they're working on Duke Forever now. I guess 3D Realms is pretty easy to get into.
Awesome stuff skanker. I definitly love Dark Rayne, but Dress Rayne has a special place in my heart now also.
To be honest, I had absolutely no desire to play BR2, but after seeing the the pimps from you and the rest of the TR crew I may end up picking it up after all.
Awesome work. What's the poly count on these models, or at least the first few?
Congrats on all the hard work. For anyone that wants to try the game, there's a demo on this month's Xbox magazine disc. Definitely plays much better than the first one.
Amazing stuff man! I have some of these in my reference folder, It's good to know who is responsible for them! Really great stuff man, Im just... yeah really great.
n30g3n3s1s : The game designer was a character artist on Nocturne and Blair Witch 1. Rayne, in those games, was named 'Svetlana', and she was one of his characters. So when BloodRayne came around, and was redesigned, he wanted to personally build her since he was pretty attatched to her character.
FatAssasin : Rayne is anywhere from 4400 to 5300 depending on which model.
The other bosses (Ferril, Ephemera, Xerx) are aroung 3500.
The minor vampires (damphir, kestrals) are around 3000.
and the punks are around 2000 to 3000 max for any single variation.
moose : No, we didn't do that pin-up. I forget the name of the company that did it, but they're the same guys that did our game cover.
Again, thank you everyone for the kind words. I'll be back with wires when I can, and some other environment art I've done.
Skanker, congrats on having so many little evil children. I almost laughed out loud at Schoolgirl Rayne and Cowgirl Rayne, they were just so intentionally cliched. All beautiful, beautiful stuff.
You saw Rayne in the paper yesterday, right?
Asskickin' babes rule.
This post has actaully inspired me to play the 1st blood Rayne again, now let me ask you something Skanker, are Rayne's breasts still über bouncey like in the first, haha.
Stuff's looking pretty good. Too bad you have so many factual errors in your comments about BR1, not to mention your personal attack on me and DeSimone. I'll post a new topic.

I want to make a couple of points here. Having worked with Chris DeSimone and Joe Wampole, I can tell you they are exceptional talents and anyone should be happy to have them on their team. I have been in this industry for over 9 years and learned early on that no matter where you are, things can change dramatically and someone you are talking down today could be the hiring manager tomorrow. The only bridges I have ever burned were to the people that I would never work for or with again.
You do have a talent, no question. However you are working on a 2nd generation engine for a much higher system spec than the original BloodRayne was built for. Take into account the increase in poly's and the texture space allowed and your work should be a natural progression.
Finally, 3DRealms has KILLED with their products which allows them to take the time to do them right. I would never be able to work on something that long, but I am betting that when the game comes out, it's going to be utterly astounding.

(Just to clear things up, because this has been said by a few different people.) When that render was made the BR2 model was lower poly and used 1 spec, normal, and diffuse map at 1024x512 each. While the BR1 model is higher poly and uses roughly 20 spec, bump, and diffuse maps at varying size.
The models are close enough to the same specs to compare fairly. I prefer the BR2 model overall, but I agree that the face is a little odd looking.
I like the DarkRayne version because her face is hidden. Everything else is great, but the faces aren't up to standards. Maybe it's the extra maps. Not the be rude. They're definately great assets, but there is always room for improvement. I downloaded them to look at later for inspiration. (trying to get back on topic)

Sectaurs is right, the cowgirl, very inspirational, haha.

Hah! or I can do this:
BR1 vs. BR2

Good luck fighting the odds, I hope you'll be successful despite the christmas onslaught.
And yeah, Dark Rayne has definitely the most interesting concept. Not that "slutty" and pretty complicated.
Kestral looks a bit too UT-ish compared to the rest, though.
They'd almost fit into Painkiller but their concepts aren't insane enough for that.
i thought that project was shut down O.o guess some things refuse to die
sorry to go off topic
thats pretty interesting that the game designer would do something like that? was the company really really small at the time?
To be honest, I had absolutely no desire to play BR2, but after seeing the the pimps from you and the rest of the TR crew I may end up picking it up after all.
Thanks for sharing!

did you guys do the pin-up for Playboy? it looks fucking great too

Had me drooling for aaages, hope BR2 does, I imagine it will since even the stills are managing it
the tattoo work on dark rayne is pretty cool too, likewise with the leather on ephemera. cool shit mang. The dress rayne is still by far my fav
I like the regular and the dark versions best.
sadly i missed the first one but awesome gothstyle.
Hmmm, a chaos! Chastity to play with .

How's it going Juan?! Hope things are going ok for you. Are you still at TRI or did you go somewhere else? Keep me up to date.
