Hello everyone, I've graduated from college at the start of this month and am currently looking for jobs. I figured the market was rough, just didn't think it'd be this bad, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong right now. If you see some areas where I'm lacking please do point it out as I would really like to improve and land a job as a junior artist! https://www.artstation.com/joel_kida

imo you don't really land *a* job. Find a company you want to work for and match or exceed the quality of their current work. Then ask them if they need help.

If the answer is no, look for companies that are trying to make something similar and ask them instead. If you're lucky enough to get a reply instead of getting ghosted for the nth time in a row, ask for feedback on what to improve or what they'd like to see

Your stuff looks good but not really much game relevant. Are you wanting to work in games? If so, demonstrate some games related art. Also, characters or environments?

Okay understood. Right now my portfolio is a bit all over the place and doesn't adhere to one particular studio or a specific style. Do you also think it's worth it to recut my reel/ Portfolio everytime I apply to a new studio? Thank you so much for the feedback!

I'd like to work in games, though all of my work experience during college has been on trailers. I figured if I wanted to apply as a Surfacing, Lighting and Comp artist for games it shouldnt be that different right? I think my portfolio lacks sufficent breakdowns for an Environment artist so I would say characters. But you're right, I've started to work on a few personal projects that are more tailored to the game industry. Thank you!
