In the game they have textures. I usually use materials etc.

Can you give a bit more info on this map data parsing?
I've done a fair amount of work with mapping and satellite data so might be able to point you in a useful direction (generally speaking the geospatial people have already solved your problem, it's just not obvious where to find the code or tools)
