This is looking really cool, love the idea! One thing about the composition, I feel like the giant pillars that act as leading lines to the floating island with the cross could be placed better for example: either raise the island a bit so that they point to the island or lower the angle of the pillars. I've done a drawing on how this could work:
obviously this is very rough but the idea is there. Love the concept, looking forward to seeing some progress!
I think something in the middle could still be a good idea. My main comment would be that the composition is lacking focus/structure. Maybe you could lift the floating structure higher up so it becomes more of a triangle composition? Scattering in some rocks could help to add depth and connect the layers.
