Hopefully this is right place for this...
So, i'd like to know what are nice vegetation/tree/plant software kits or plugins that you may recommend as "light" solutions aka model output doesn't eat much RAM etc.
I know that obvious recommendations are Arbaro and NgPlant, but perhaps anything else? Maybe with more experimental algorithms even?
As counter-example of "not to", i would note tree-gen plugin for Blender, which is suitable more for leaving it results in curves instead of converting them to polys with that bloated weight. On a side note, i'm very unhappy that i was too late to get TreeSketch by Steven Longay and now it's not available anymore (shame, it was one of most interesting systems, and with scientific approach).

Look for tree[d] frecle which was a neat little program for making lowpoly trees. Also search this forum, we had some threads about how to use it iirc.
There's also the wiki http://wiki.polycount.com/wiki/Foliage
Looks like Search is a bit borked at the moment (I'll file yet another bug, ugh).
Searching tree[d] frecle will only get you this thread.
Searching tree[d] however will get you a bunch of results, including this one

Thank you, will take a look.
And if we also speak about close-up camera high poly trees, i wonder how many people prefer grove3d over speedtree, hmm...
Everybody hates speedtree.
There's no viable alternative to speedtree if you want to work at any sort of scale.
