Maybe they'll integrate Sketchfab model purchasing directly into UE? It seems like a goldmine which not many people buy from. Maybe I'm just out of the loop though.
I guess UE is at a buyout war with unity, and whoever gets the pipeline tools down will get a bigger piece of the pie. Unity acquired SpeedTree a few days ago as well
sketchfab is one of my go to places when i need a model. But I actually havent spent a ton of money there because so much is available for free.
like mentioned, it's really great place to get scans.
dunno what epic would do with it, and although they are doing nice things right now eventually someone else will be in charge, and if they own too much then everybody will suffer.

whoa! The speed tree acquisition flew under my radar.
I for one don't know why exactly they did it, but so far, it seems to be a bit of a blessing. Fairly decent upgrades for the standard users which is great. Even though I was given access to a sellers account by Alban some time ago, I'm not a paid member, and only being able to upload one free viewable only model really did feel a bit restrictive. I sell my 3d print models on gumroad first and foremost, but occasionally I like to show off progress/previews before they get put up, and only being able to do one per month really did hamper my ability to do that. I think it's great that they've expanded it a bit Hopefully things can continue to improve, though only time will tell I guess
Hopefully they are going to create a new model viewer for Quixel/Sketchfab/Artstation that's standardized with more features.
Right now you need to know your way around with 3d to use photogrammetry in games
Maybe they plan on an automated drag and drop the world to your viewport kind of thing..
Interesting. Curious about the slicing as it's not a grid but not a full voronoi neither so why

the difference there is that when Epic buy things they make them better and when Unity buy things they leave them alone
This is a shame in the context of Speedtree because it's a contemptuous money grab at a level that even Maya can't get close to

I am a bit confused with what epic has been buying lately.
The free upgrades for users is nice though.
