Xgen "Save Textures" what does it do exactly?

I heard that i have to click this button when i'm done but i never had any problem when i don't.
Do you what it is exactly and if I should always click it when i'm done painting?

Xgen does bake the painted texture into ptex during painting automatically . And i never used this button for painting with xgen.
