Best practices for long hair cards?

I'm doing a character, and I'm going to start the hair soon, the concept I'm using has really long hair, below the shoulders, which im pretty sure is really impractical in realtime.  

What are some thing to look out for and not do when figuring out a haircut? I'm gussing abov the shoulders? Do you rig hair at all, Or are there easy hair physics solutions? I'm using ue4, and I've seen some stuff on using the cloth physics for hair, is that viable? Is stuff like aloys hair in Horizon zero dawn achievable without lots of technical work? achievable
