I'm making an M1911 and would like some feedback. I have the low poly and unwrapping done but not the high poly yet. Please tell me what you think and if there's anything I could improve on.
Try to avoid super long polygons. Also, what is your workflow like? If you're planning on changing this model to high poly, you're going to have super weird geo to work with for your high poly.
Proportions look solid, I would recommend going for a highpoly to lowpoly workflow. You can make a Highpoly with what you already have and dynamesing it in zbrush or by playing with the bevel shader in Blender for instance
Wouldn't stacking UVs result in weird normal or ambient occlusion artifacts? As for my workflow I first made the low-poly, unwrapped it and then I was planning on making the high-poly from the low. Also, I can't dynamesh it because I don't have Zbrush or a tablet for it.
When stacking uvs you shift the overlapping ones to outside the main uv space (0 to 1 space on both axes) but make sure you move it by a whole 1 unit so that it retains the same position on the texture. Also, make sure you optimize that low poly a bit before the uv mapping. Idk if maya can retain uvs properly after optimisation.
